So you think that, because people are buying it now, they won't buy it in the holidays?
Imagine this instead: So many people have the Wii, the word of mouth is spreading like wildfire. Alot of people who don't play games (80% of people dont really play games) are now demanding the Wii in greater numbers, and thats not even including the other 10% who ARE gamers who probably want a Wii.
And Nintendo gets another Manufacturing partner. Except this time, they can produce double of what they were producing before. And now, Nintendo actually starts advertising again! Hah! They still sell out during christmas 2007, after passing the 360 in august in total hardware units.

He's saying that the Wii is selling out now, so they are unable to stockpile enough units for the holiday season to maintain supply.  Selling 1M a month worldwide at the beginning of the year is nice, but that's be absolutely terrible for December--Wii could possibly push 4M if they could actually stockpile enough for it.  But because they're still selling out, maybe they aren't stockpiling yet (we don't know really).

Well if Nintendo could meet demand it might be able to happen by June or July of this year. That won't happen though. My guess is probably by October it happens, and if not 100% for sure during the holiday season. I mean look at where 360 sales are coming from: 60% are being sold in the Americas. If that preportion continues it destroys it's chance not only to sell more than the Wii, but it makes it likley that the PS3 will surprass it eventually as well. I can even envision a situation where the 360 comes in first in North America, but last in world wide sales. The fact is the Wii is catching up so quickly, selling great in all markets, that I would bet anything it happens this year. THe Wii will dominate the 2007 holiday season as far and away the most gift friendly console.

Thanks to Japan it will surpass the X360 somewhere in the summer :).

You guys realize it's april right?  Nintendo is increasing production and they know more than we do that they need a lot of units for Christmas.  I'm sure the Wii will be very available this summer.

currently playing: Skyward Sword, Mario Sunshine, Xenoblade Chronicles X

Never... hahahahahahaha Maybe October, but Halo and GTA will help the 360, so for sure on xmas

For those of you who said the Wii has been shipping 1.3million/month for the last 5 months. Your crazy. The wii launched with 1.2-2million units. Because of that massive launch number it really makes it look like they have higher production than they do. Look at monthly sales in japan/USA/UK for for 1 month. It is about 700-900 thousand. Not 1.3million.

It's something like 85k/week for NA, 60k/week for Japan, and somewhere in between for Others, so around 900k a month since the start of '07 seems about right. Which is why it's crazy to think that their first production boost is suddenly going to double that amount, that those 900k extra will all go to NA and ignore the other regions, so that the Wii can catch the 360 in NA in July. Worldwide even it's a long shot - 3M behind with 4 months left, and Wii is maybe gaining 500k a month before the production increase, which leaves them 1M short, so they'd need an extra 250k a month worldwide (and have every one sell and 360 rate stay constant) to catch worldwide by the end of July. That one is at least possible I suppose. At some point Wii's need to be stockpiled for Xmas though, I wonder when/if that'll happen if it hasn't already.

Originally I was thinking that Wii would catch 360 in October. Now, I revise myself to August with the increase in monthly productions from about 900k to probably 1.2m or so.

Basically my thoughts. However becuase when Halo3 comes out I expect the 360 to start outselling the Wii, and then holidays, the 360 will also outsell the Wii. (simple fact, the 360 has millions in extra stock, the wii has none, so when demand increase, 360 sales increase... Wii sales dont)

That's why I agree the Wii might pass the 360 in august/october. However november I think the 360 will sell more, and I think the 360 will be ahead of the Wii in december.
