Forums - Sales Discussion - When will the Wii catchup with the Xbox360 in h/w sales ??

As of reporting there is a difference of about 3 million. With March NPD figures expected, can we expect Wii to cut down on that lead ??

I suppose we can expect Holiday 2007 level the playingfield, unless nintendo delays mario, metriod further.

Heeeeyyyy!!!! <Snap>

The numbers on the site are regularly updated to keep track of sales through the month.  As such, unless the NPD numbers come back with something totally unexpected, there shouldn't be much (if any) of an  adjustment to the ones you're currently seeing at this time.

I'm expecting the Wii to match the 360's installed base towards the end of the summer.  Halo 3 and GTA will keep the consoles closely matched up through the holidays.  (I'm expecting both to have about 20M out there by the end of the year.)

Numbers are like people. Torture them enough and you can get them to say anything you want.

I don't think there is *any* chance either console will reach 20mill by the end of the year (i.e. Xmas 07).

Even if Ninty manage to manufacture/sell 10m units in the next 8 months - that leaves the 3-4m short. And making 10m in 8months is no easy feat.

Following traditional sales curves (and assuming the PS3 doesn't steal the 360 thunder) the 360 will sell another 5-7m units this year - giving it a global base of about 15m-17m.

The Wii may (or may not) exceed the 360 by Xmas - its completely dependant on Nintendo's ability to increase production ASAP (to some huge level). Find out in 2 weeks what their projections for the next 12 months are.

I didn't think the numbers on this page indicated the March NPD numbers yet... I didn't think any of the US has been changed since the Feb NPD numbers appeared.

On that matter is NPD this Thursday 12th?

March's NPD numbers recorded to the 5th, so we won't see the numbers until the 19th.

And WTH happened to the forum's listings? 0.o

Hahahahahahaha. My favorite question.

Holiday 2007? Please.

XBox 360 gets passed by the Wii within July 2007.
BET on that.

Oh, and yes.

Wii WILL sell AT LEAST 20 million worldwide by the end of this year December 31, 2007 at 11:59PM to be exact.

Just thought I'd throw that in there. I really need to get into the prediction leagues and make this official.

Hope these answers help.

@johnlucas

i think you are a bit too optimistic...

of course, it would be great for nintendo to sell 20m wiis till christmas

but also 15m would be fine

It's not "if" anymore, it's a matter of "when". And it all rests entirely on Nintendo's production capactiy.

I don't think there is a chance in hell that the Wii or the 360 will sell 20m units by the end of this year.  Remember we are 1/4 of the way through already.

I predict that the Wii will be beating the 360 by 1m come the end of the year with Wii sales on around 16m and 360 on around 15m.

The introduction of the PS3 will dent some sales of both systems, but more so the 360, but I don't expect to see higher sales of the PS3 until a pricedrop is introduced.

I reckon the Wii and 360 sales will be level around October/November time with a better Christmas for Wii taking them 1m over 360 sales.

This means that MS have 8 months to sell another 4.5m 360's and Nintendo have 8 months to sell 9.5m units, which is alot.

I cannot see either console selling more than what I have predicted...being more realistic, it's likely to be slightly lower than that.

Prediction (June 12th 2017)

Permanent pricedrop for both PS4 Slim and PS4 Pro in October.

PS4 Slim $249 (October 2017)

PS4 Pro $349 (October 2017)
