Forums - Sony Discussion - Metro 2033 on PS3 - will we see it in 2011?

I'd love to have a good survival horror/FPS on the PS3. The tension and atmosphere in the game looks great.

This is what THQ had to say in February:

"[Not releasing on PS3 was] probably more of a business decision, and one that I wasn’t part of when I was at THQ," says producer Hew Beynon, trying to avoid the pitchforks. The studio architect of the 4A engine did a lot of the initial work on the PS3 first, just to get to grips with the architecture. A lot of the early prototypes you saw were of the PC version … You’d probably have to ask someone up in senior THQ finance to find out why we didn’t greenlight a PS3 version at the time, but there’s no reason why the engine wouldn’t work on PS3."

Your thoughts? Are you keen for a release? Will it come across in the same way that Lost Planet 2 and others did?

I would love to see it on the PS3 but if they fixed the glitches and improved the stealth. honestly, Metro 2033 is one of the most unique shooters I've played since Bioshock. Too bad it didn't live up to its potential, hope the sequel does.

Yeah why not.

Hey long time no see wholikeswood, u excited about Skyrim?

Dunno whether it's the sort of game that really warrants a late PS3 port. It didn't set the world on fire on 360, there's no reason to think it'll sell even that on PS3.

What about the game would make it more appealing to PS3 gamers compared to 360 gamers?

Still if they haven't turned a profit on the game yet, and they only need to sell 100K on PS3 to make it profitable then it's probably worth a shot.

Hey slimebeast!!!

Yeah, I've been pretty busy since the summer and not found the games industry that exciting over the last few months.

However, I can barely contain my glee about Skyrim. I must have sunk 400 hundred hours into Oblivion. :D

400 hundred hours? Wow, that's a lot, that's like 40 000 hours. Waaaaiiiiit.... That's more than four and a half years non-stop.

Anyway, to answer the original question, personally I'm guessing no. It's possible but most likely not happening. But who knows.

I don't think it will, all the games going to the PS3 have been announced already like Mass effect 2 and Sniper, Splinter Cell *might* get announced along with Splinter Cell Collection, metro should have been announced already if it were to come.

Metro 2033 2... that's almost as bad as Army of Tutu (Army of Two: The 40th Day)... well, atleast it had a subname and not a number at the end, lol.

But yeah I would love to play this on PS3, unfortunately my PC doesn't see much love when it comes to gaming, since it can't run the majority of them (My CPU is a little old right now, everything else is up to scratch though), and I think it'd be unfair if they were to release a sequel on PS3, and not bring the first game (I know BioWare have done this with Mass Effect, but obviously the first game is firmy in the grip of Microsoft, since they published it).

Oh well, let's just see what happens.

By the way, did it even sell good enough to even merit a PS3 port or a sequel?

The offical sequel is called Metro 2034 and has already been comfirmed to be multiplatform.

playing right now: Xenoblade Chronicles

Hype-o-meter, from least to most hyped:  the Last Story, Twisted Metal, Mass Effect 3, Final Fantasy XIII-2, Final Fantasy Versus XIII, Playstation ViTA

bet with Mordred11 that Rage will look better on Xbox 360.

Moving off topic a little bit. Metro 2033 showed A LOT of potential. Different game engine, very atmospheric, unique in some ways mostly due to being made in Russia, brilliant light source effects, very smooth framerate. I reckon if done properly the sequel could be really, really, really good. They just need to polish up the stealth aspects, buying and selling needs polishing and either ditch the outside parts of the game or massively improve it.

If THQ don't release it on the PS3 (and in a way it's good they didn't at the same time as the 360/PC since it might have been a dodgy port) than they could do a Bioware and just recap the first game and release the sequel on all formats.
