Forums - Sony Discussion - people should be excited for Socom 4

Sony fans and Shooter fans Socom 4 is what you should be really looking forward to next year as its really looking like being an great AAA exclusive for the Sony console.

Sure Socom 4 from what we have seen (we have only seen the first level god mode in an 12 hour game) is looking different from the past socoms but that doesn't make it an "Bad" game.

Zipper Interactive can be labled an Underrated developer, they are always been pushing Innovation with Socom being the first console game to have voice commands and have such an robust online multiplayer comparable to that of pc games. And lately with MAG boosting 256 player games. So my point is that Zipper is no second class studio here.

From what has been revealed is that Socom SP is going to be 12 hours long. Now you might say "thats not that long" but in Shooter games terms thats VERY long. Shooters now days are shamelessly short ranging from 4-8 hours so and on top of getting 8-4 more hours of SP we have Online multiplayer which Zipper being Sony's Online multiplayer leading studios will more than likely be very robust.

But onto SP news which Zipper has only revealed is that the game is more challegening and requires team work. you are given control of 2, 2 man squads and according to Zipper you wont make it not even 1/3 through the campaign not using them. Also keeping with the Socom tradition there is no Run directly into battle guns blazing like games like Call of Duty but instead will have to play more tactically. They were speaking about this on there podcast that during testing one of the testers in the focus groups were constantly charging in and dying each time before finally playing more tactically. So the SP will be an breath of fresh air for the tactical fans.

Really i am very excited because Shooters have been my favourite genre but they have been such let downs over the past years that i have basically given up and moved to different genres but socom is really setting up to be an great game. And Sadly i bet its going to be overshadowed.

Of Course That's Just My Opinion, I Could Be Wrong

I'm a HUGE socom fan from the Socom 1 and 2 days, but the series has been in nosedive since then. I really want this to be good, but I get the feeling Zipper are aiming too much for the COD type shooter market to make this the game fans of the first 2 want.

Just release Socom 2 HD Sony! >_>

Yeah man, I'm in the same boat as you. It looks different but hopefully they keep the tactical feel in the online.

i'm not liking what i've seen and heard from zipper so far. and this is coming from some one that has been playing socom's  since day one. they have strayed to far from what made socom the game it was. with socom you could run n gun or take your time. depending on who you were playing.  they slowed the player movement down to much. and push to run should have never been put in the game. should all be done with the analog stick like before. and now they are taking out the lean function for a cover system. slowing the game down even more.  and my ass is still sore from the last couple of iterations. and before some one says well zipper didnt make Confrontation. doesnt matter Seth Luisi was the lead on that. just like he is the lead on S4. he called the shots. and to me he has forgot how to make a true socom game. this maybe be the first socom i dont buy.

We need to see more gameplay and hear more details about this game first....

I may waite for reviews on it before its a buy for me....

In the past Socom games were always day 1 buys.   I absolutely loved the first two and put hundreds of hours if not more into both.  Then the 3rd came out.   I didn't like it near as much and found myself playing it far less.  I then got CA and Confrontation.  I maybe played 10 hours of confrontation because the bugs at it's launch were just horrid and the gameplay was not fun.

For Socom 4, I doubt that I'll buy it or even play it.  Unless it gets insanely great reviews and one of the comments is that it's a throwback to S2, I doubt i play a round of it.

Good thing I have BlOps to play and in the near future I'll pick up GT5 and those two games will keep me occupied for quite a while into the future.
