Forums - Gaming Discussion - GTA Gamplay details!

The May issue of Game Informer is starting to reach the homes of subscribers, and while we're waiting for the high resolution scans of the ten page article that was devoted to Grand Theft Auto IV, here's the brief details of what's been revealed, which doesn't look like much:

  • The protagonist's name is Niko Bellic.
  • Multiplayer is to be announced.
  • You can use a cellphone to call your contacts.
  • No planes..?
  • "You have a lot of choice over what you want to do."
  • Game Informer played the Xbox demo.
  • Dan Houser explains that "a big part of New York life is walking the streets and meeting lunatics", and this is something they definitely tried to put into the game.
Multiplayer? Like, you hold the cop down, I'll steal his car? We talking split screen versus mode, or co-op? It's also been jotted down, that the music is better than usual, and that cell phones will help shape the story so that you're not just a slave running around and following orders. A small portion of it was actually read off and audio recorded, I think some geek had his girlfriend read it to him over the phone as soon as the issue arrived. You can get a hard to understand sound file here if you're that desperate. Check back later for more details.

I'm not that desperate.

"You have a lot of choice over what you want to do."  Brilliant!

Bet with disolitude: Left4Dead will have a higher Metacritic rating than Project Origin, 3 months after the second game's release.  (hasn't been 3 months but it looks like I won :-p )

I hope the "No planes" portion is not accurate. I really loved that aspect of San Andreas.

yeah, if that's true, Rockstar has lost its cojones. i can understand why you wouldn't want to let people use planes in a NYC-look-alike, but i doubt the buildings are coded to be able to take damage anyway.

My Top 5:

Shadow of the Colossus, Metal Gear Solid 3, Shenmue, Skies of Arcadia, Chrono Trigger

My 2 nex-gen systems: PS3 and Wii

Prediction Aug '08: We see the PSP2 released fall '09. Graphically, it's basically the same as the current system. UMD drive ditched and replaced by 4-8gb on board flash memory. Other upgrades: 2nd analog nub, touchscreen, blutooth, motion sensor. Design: Flip-style or slider. Size: Think Iphone. Cost: $199. Will be profitable on day 1.

I dunno...I really don't have that much fun with planes...the fast pace of cars and motorcycles make it fun for me.

Why np lane in NYC? Is new law passed?

No, there's no law against it. i was just saying that Rockstar would get a lot of flak from the media for allowing people to crash planes willy nilly in a virtual city that resembles NY considering 9/11.

I'm kinda with you, Ben. Cars are definitely more fun, but i did enjoy the planes, especially for getting from one side of San Andreas to a whole other side. But now that i think about it, I guess planes would be useless in NY.

Ah, I see. I thought maybe your Act of Patriot may limit you. We don't have limit like that here. So maybe I fly plane on my version?

Haha funny man.

The fact is the public, not the government, would rush to bury this game if kids were crashing planes into buildings in NYC.
