rev is a worthless number b/c to get your profit you still have to take out your expenses--so if you have 10 in rev and 11 in expene you still go negative

Revenue is important for one thing: it shows how much money customers are willing to spend on your stuff. Now you can say this is not very meaningful, and I don't know whether I'd agree or not, but it's certainly not meaningless!

From the financial standpoint, net profit is more important of course, and from the standpoint of competition, absolute sales numbers are more important.

I am sure in the eyes of MS, Sony and Nintendo, all they care about is their bottom line.

However, if developers see that even though the Wii has been, and still is, outselling the X360 in hardware, but still lagging well behind in software....They'll choose what will move their software the most. EA showed this a few months ago, when the X360 was moving 3 or 4x the money for their software.

MrStickBall, developers would actually have to put software on Wii first. You can't have Midway putting crap like Cruis'n out and bemoaning its poor sales.

Spin this:

Here are the software sales numbers for November 2007:
* Xbox 360 - 4.034 Million Units
* Wii - 3.567 million units
* Sony Family of Game Systems - 2.045 million units

Most of the Xbox 360 sales numbers are for third party games. Most of the Wii's sales numbers are for Nintendo developed games. Which is better if you want to attract third party games to your console? As for the PS3, all the exclusives have failed miserably, while the third party developed games did quite well, although the same games did significantly better on the Xbox 360 (22% of COD4 sales are on the PS3, 28% of Assassin's Creeds sales are on the PS3).

Microsoft gets revenue from the 360's right? But, not profit! Teehee!

Poor, poor Cruis'n series--Midwa struck gold with the N64 and arcade games... perhaps they decided to 'preserve the integrity of the original game?'

A lot of 3rd party games that have some decent effort put into them are selling very well, actually.  Look at RE4, MoH:H2, Trauma Centre, RE:UC (selling fairly well), Rayman, Red Steel, etc.  All are selling quite well on Wii.  Why?  Because the developer spent some time working on them.  True, you can point to individual exceptions, such as the amazing Zack and Wiki, but you  can do this for all systems (Viva Pinata, anyone?).  Hell, as some have mentioned, even Carnival Games is selling at an alarming(ly upsetting) rate.

 In short, if they actually make a decent game, it will sell.  It will be interesting to see what happens with upcoming heavy-hitters like Monster Hunter, Tales of Symphonia, and Fragile.
