Forums - General Discussion - If someone invaded your country would you fight back?

I was thinking alittle while ago as to all these people fighting Russia, fighting the US in the past Britain etc...etc... Thinking to myself why would they fight. But then I thought what if someone invaded my country? Would I stand by and watch them install a new government or take my resources and rights.

No I wouldn't I would grab the nearest gun and go postal on their asses. As much as I hate what the Taliban do I think some members simply want Nato out of their country. I think of Iraq and how many people probubly fought America not because they were terrorists but because they wanted America out. Or all the other countries in the past that fight.

So if another country, any country invaded your country. Would you fight back? Or would you allow an occupation?

I think thats a point a lot of people dont consider (myself included) when reading about modern conflicts in the news.

I would ust run away to the mountains.

Above: still the best game of the year.

It depends. If the invading country esentially treats me as a second class citizen, not giving me any rights and persecuting me (like the empires who ruled over the region where Romania is currently located), I'd definately join or found some sort of resistence movement.

However if the invading country treated me like any other citizen of it's empire, allowing me all the rights and freedoms that any other citizen has, then I'd have no problem with it. It would probably be a good thing in the long run.

If you want to create a alrge empire, you need to create an assimilation plan where the conquered populations eventually are assimilated and become equal citizens of the empire, or else people will eventually rise up and the empire will crumble.

What is this? A contest who is more patriotic? I'am! (I would and should, I gave an oath after all).

@sapphi_snake

If you've been treated like 2nd class citizen then either you're not loyal in eyes of imperial authority or you're not living in an empire. Empires are based on super-ethnoses (nation), your super-ethnic self-determination should be above whatever other ethno-social grouap you're in. If you're not then, well, they treat you like 2nd class citizen, like a threat. BTW I hope you're not talking from an experience =)

Check out my hype threads: Cyberpunk, and The Witcher 3!

Or the empire has no interest in assimilating the conquered populations, and thinks that it can plunder the lands and resources, while the people are content with being second class citizens (the British empire for example). You're right that certain elements may be seen as bein threatening, however the empire itself needs to make certain sacrifices while the assimilation process takes place (like accepting religious diversity rather than trying to push a particular religion). Essentially the empire would need to built it's identity while the conquering takes place (like the Roman empire did).

Also, I wasn't alive when Roman was divided between Austria-Hungary and the Ottoman empire (and I believe some regions were simultaneously Russian protectorates) , so I luckily didn't experience what it was like to be a second class citizen.

As human beings, I think it is pointless to fight eachother. So here is a better question. If something invaded earth, would you fight back?
