Forums - Sales Discussion - Biggest bomb of the year

jarrod said:

The real answer is Blur.  Was hailed as "The COD of racing", had a HUGE (and semi-controversial) advertising campaign, then it sold 30k (combined) it's first NPD and bombed so hard Activision shut down the freshly purchased Bizarre Creations as a result.

Games like GT5 and Epic mickey may have disappointed in certain regions (reverse regions actually, Mickey in Europe, GT everywhere else) but neither is anywhere close to a real "bomb".

They shut Bizarre Creations down? No more Project Gotham Racing? NO!!!!! I'm getting blur when it's on sale in protest!

They let a lot of staff go, Bizarre's going to either be shut down or sold off.  Hopefully it's the latter (and hopefully to Microsoft).

APB is the biggest bomb of the year mainly because if you spend $100 million developing a game and it flops so hard that no one is even aware of its existence then it's the biggest bomb the year

FFXIV was a pretty big bomb too

More like the bomb of the decade.

Yes! But that sill makes it only the bomb of the year

2010 = first year of decade darthripoff

Actually 2011 is the first year of the next decade, 2010 is the last year of this decade.

Was 1990 part of the 80s? Was 2000 part of the 90s? In both those cases the answer is no, so why should 2010 be part of the 00s (or what ever last decade is called)? If you still say it is, then i guess this "decade" was 11 years.

Actually 2000 was part of the 90s, the true new millenium is 2001. Reason is pretty simple, there is no year 0 calendar start with year 1.

But we must first concentrate ourselves on the way to entertain people, for video games to live. Else, it's a world where sales representative will win, which has as effect to kill creativity. I want to say to the creators all around the world:"Courage, Dare!". Shigeru Miyamoto.

It would be funny to see MS sell Bizarre and re-acquire them back later. I would really love to see a Project Gotham Racing 5, I think blur was amazing, and the driving sequences on Blood Stone were great too.

FFIV for me.  Terrible title, dev team "restructured" delayed PS3 release... that's a bad one.

Blur was a pretty huge bomb too I think, and APB, like FFIV, was another hyped title that instead sank like a stone and in this case dragged down the developer.

Try to be reasonable... its easier than you think...

Has anyone mentioned Majin and the forsaken Kingdom yet? it's a shame though, because i think the game is really great.

“It appeared that there had even been demonstrations to thank Big Brother for raising the chocolate ration to twenty grams a week. And only yesterday, he reflected, it had been announced that the ration was to be reduced to twenty grams a week. Was it possible that they could swallow that, after only twenty-four hours? Yes, they swallowed it.”

- George Orwell, ‘1984’

APB

Enslaved hands down. They've decided to go multi because of "poor" Heavenly Sword sales and after that new game bombed so hard on both systems. Amazing especially it is pretty solid title.

Probably Ninja Theory is in deep shit right now.

Blur, White Knight Chronicles, Metro 2033 and Quantum Theory are the main ones IMO.

However I'm still disappointed at Alan Wake, and Front Mission sales.
