Forums - Sales Discussion - Gran Turismo 5 (America) sales compared to GT4 and GT3

Well, I think most GT's have been bundled to some degree so GT5 will probably be bundled as well. Black Friday bundles next year in the US (like Uncharted2, God of War 3 etc. had now) and it will have many bundles in EMEAA. At least where I live, the game stores 'create' bundles themselves and I expect them to do that with GT5.

Well that much is given. I thought you were refering to a special bundle from Sony themselves. Still even with these normal bundles, I don't expect the game to see as well as prior installment, mainly because of the loss of the US and Japanese market. EMEAA alone can't pull 8 million.

I'd say this is amazing especially considering that GT4 launched when the PS2 install base was 3 times that of the PS3's now.

Or maybe  GT4 launched as the second game to come out on that system. Being the first GT on the PS2, GT3 trounced 4 solely because it was the first one on the system and had the most 'wow' factor.

GT5 has that 'first game of the generation' syndrome while GT4 didn't.

GT3 launched to a smaller install base.

End.

Didn't GT3 get to most of its sales because USA bundles?

But it can, same way HAlo3 in NA did GT5 in emeaa will likely do.

Judging a GT title by first week sales. Congratulations!

Word you're looking for is comparing. Nobody's saying "it opened to 2m so it'll sell 5m". They're saying "it opened to less than other GTs so it'll do less than other GTs". There is absolutely no reason to believe that this will have significantly larger legs than other GTs (there is much reason to believe that it'll have much smaller legs on the other hand) so the "Gran Turismo" characteristic cancels out in the comparison.

Gaf say GT5 sold 400k for november.

So we have it 70k overtracked here. Unless it did 70k bundles. Which you would think would be possible. But would mean a high number of that weeks console sales were the GT5 bundle.

You do realize NPD only tracks the US, yes?

Do you realize thats entirely false? 87% of Americas sales are US, the other 13% is Canada and South America.

470 - 13% = 408k? And there are GT5 bundles in US not tracked by NPD.

OH FIDDLESTICKS!, I missread NDP for VGChartz. SORRY!!

Yea, now I'm on track with you guys.

Also what GT5 bundles? The limited collectors edition PS3 with a signed faceplate? I live in Canada, so you guys may have had some bundles at Target or something, but other then that limited edition, I didn't see no bundles.

PS3 120GB GT5 Best Buy Bundle.

These "bundles" are reserved for the $1300/1700/2200 Bravia deals.  They were a Black Friday exclusive promotion, only at Best Buy, this is probably whatever excess stock this store had left afterward.  This isn't an "available" bundle per se, and it's production run was likely four figures.

Well both the TV deal and the basic PS3 GT5 bundle are available online, and the bundle is available at every best buy near me.  The $1300 and $2200 TV's seem to be sold out, but they can be ordered.

Actually according to the psblog the deal ended today, so it wasn't just Black Friday.

Even if you reduce GT3 America sales from 7 million to 2-3 million, it still sold within average for prior GT games, and it launched on a smaller user base. User base areguments are meaningless outside the Mushroom Kingdom.

He could just mean congratulations that GT5 is still selling reasonably well considering the different in software selling power between the PS1/PS2 and PS3.

But Halo has always sold about 80% of its sales in Americas. GT has never sold more then about 60-65% (GT4 is best) of their sales in EMEAA, so if Americas and Japan sales have dropped off this much, I don't think GT will grow in EMEAA to offset it. It goes agains trends, but it isn't impossible.

I just think best case, GT5 will sell average (9-11 million) for a GT game, lets wait a few weeks and see where sales stabilize.

Good thing I don't believe in 1st party PS3 user base arguments (lol i'm a grammar nazi)
