Forums - Gaming Discussion - Persuading Others to Give Gaming a Chance

I'm creating a persuasive speech for class. I've had to change my topic 4 times now. 1st one just didn't work, second one someone else did before my turn came up (and I had everything typed up and cue cards at the ready...) and third one I just couldn't get enough info on. So now I've decided to go with the title above. I've just decided on this so I don't really have anything at the moment. I just remembered that I frequent a gaming forum so I figured some of you might know some areas that I can discuss or some interesting surveys, statistics, etc. that I can use.

I'd really appreciate the help. Getting kinda tired of switching topics.

Some Ideas:

One: Focus on both demographics and their trends (If you want ideas, nintendo usually does this in the beginning of e3s or other presentations)

Two: Show the artistic side from it, games like flower or shadow of the colossus.

Three: Show how it plays into mainstream culture....this is where you have to show such things as the DS commercials with famous people, or the new call of duty advertisement with Kobe Bryant.

Talking about innovative stuff is always winner.

Talk like steve jobs ,and tell them you are from the future and keep saying incredable amazing beautiful dazzling things.

talk about why you game. you would create so many arguments and reasons off that.

Of Course That's Just My Opinion, I Could Be Wrong

also stay away from facts. No one games because 250 million people do. not because the industry is worth 60 billion  USD.

What's your thesis statement? "Give gaming a chance" is awfully broad, maybe too much to cover adequately in a school assignment.

Complexity is not depth. Machismo is not maturity. Obsession is not dedication. Tedium is not challenge. Support gaming: support the Wii.

What do I hate about modern gaming? I hate tedium replacing challenge, complexity replacing depth, and domination replacing entertainment. I hate the outsourcing of mechanics to physics textbooks, art direction to photocopiers, and story to cheap Hollywood screenwriters. I hate the confusion of obsession with dedication, style with substance, new with gimmicky, old with obsolete, new with evolutionary, and old with time-tested.
There is much to hate about modern gaming. That is why I support the Wii.

Yeah, that'll get his/her semester an automatic A.

bring a Wii to class, guaranteed u can convince everyone to play it.

I always justify my gaming purchases by the fact that i get cheaper entertainment thatn going to the movies. A game may cost $60 new but you figure you play it from 15-60 hours and its cheaper than going to the movies per hour.
