Forums - Sales Discussion - This put Kinect sales into perspective for me

I will never understand why people want this device to do well.

- For one, does anybody here REALLY want to play games that way?

- Second, the games for it are just.. well let's just say "uninspired." Devs should not be encouraged to make games of this poor of quality.

1. Obviously yes. There are a few Kinect owners here.

2. Quality is only the qualities you are looking for. I for one was only just interested in just one of Sony's first party games slated for next year whereas others wanted 4-5 titles.

Tease.

So the geezer with the ridiculous glasses was correct. Also another myth debunked this generation... Peripherals do not sell.

Kinect as seen by PS3 owners ...if you can pick at it   ...post it ... Did I mention the 360 was black and Shinny? Keeping Sigs obscure since 2007, Passed by the Sig police 5July10.

1. yes

2. the games are fun, but they are only the tip of the iceberg. Watching all those cool gimmicks on http://www.kinecthacks.net/ is firing my imagination

Do me a favor, get a 360 with Kinect, buy Kinect Sports and Dance Central, and invite a bunch of people over; particularly those who don't play video games. Watch the magic happen and you'll see what Kinect does. Quality is relative and opinion. No one I've had played it did not feel like it was quality. They all say how they want to get Kinect. Why? Because it's fun. And in the end, that's the main reason to play a video game.

Author of science fiction and other genres, I write under the pen name Desmond Shepherd. The second season of my series The Permanent Man premieres on November 11, 2014. Pre-order the season premiere The Walls Have Ears on Amazon today!

In its first week the Ipad sold much more (>600,000 in the first week of March) than kinect, but it was very front-loaded (and it was March). So it's plausible that kinect sold more in the 25 days span, but it doesn't mean much.

Bet you won't play kinect for more than 2 hours though. I mean, how many "Kinect invites" can you have before everyone gets tired of it? I truly do not see why people buy kinect either, its not to troll or anything. But it seems to me like anyone that buys it doesn't think about "well, how many hours am i really going to invest into kinect?". Either way, it seems to be selling boat loads lol. Good for MS.

isnt the cheapest ipad like $500? comparing kinect  and this is ridiculous.

500 million dollar ad campaign near Christmas will do that. I do not go one day without seeing an ad for kinect.

500 million is for at least 1 year though.

$500 million is what Nintendo typically spends advertising in Q4 of every year from what I hear. So if they spent as much as Nintendo does in the same quarter then what is there to complain about, really?

i doubt nintendo spend that much money on advertising even in q4. i see alot of ads for wii, yes but nothing to what i have seen for kinect. i saw 4 kinect adverts in a row.

We had a family party yesterday and Kinect was played from 3-10pm with one break for dinner. Kids as young as 6 and adults as old as 41 were playing and everyone had a blast. We also have a Wii that could have been played but my kids were excited to show their cousins Kinect and once it came out no one mentioned it. One of my nephews who had already put in a letter to Santa asking for a Wii asked if it was too late to send another one asking for Kinect instead. This is the second party we have had since we got Kinect and the first one saw the same results.

Maybe it is not for you, and that is fine, but try to view it objectively and maybe listen to some of the evidence.

I think a great indicator of the success of the Kinect launch is how much the critics of it sound like the early critics of the Wii.

Seeing as companies are notorious for shipped numbers, I'm skeptical to beleive thios. Esspecially as retailers have been saying they have a lot of stock.

Eh? No they havn't. And MS have been reporting sold figures only for Kinect. So be skepticle no more!
