PISS POOR!  So they are building 5 new shiny big ones... why?  what for?  how will they be used afterwards?  idiotic.

1. Watch the qatar presentation. After the world cup they will destroy the stadiums and rebuilt it in developing countries.

2. Also they will provide "revolutionary" airconditioning inside the stadiums.

1.  well thats very environmentally friendly isnt it

2.  wont work and if it does it will be as dry as hell

1. they don't care, if they wanted an environmentally friendly world cup. Belgium/holland would have won.

2. I agree, it's madness.

1.  Surely england would have won?  Very compact and all the stadiums already built.

1. We're even more compact, plus it was in our presentation that we would have made over 1 million bikes available.Plus some other stuff I can't remember.

Not that I think we deserved it more, England should have gotten it. But one of the selling points of our bid was being environmentally friendly.

Bitter tears and sour grapes. FIFA ruling was a fair, equitable and democratic process. There were no sleazy backroom deals or corruption: that is just not talked about to the general public. 24 officials paid  large sums of cash and gifts under the table to secure their votes. Democracy at work. FIFA World Cup bids were fair and balanced just like Fox News is fair and balanced.

World Cup 2018 to be hosted by Russia. England misses out again. Bad luck Netherlands/Belgium. Congratulations Russia.

World Cup 2022 to be hosted by Qatar. USA and South Korea/Japan miss out. Australia was a joke bid and never stood a real chance. Congratulations Qatar and first ever Middle Eastern Arab Nation World Cup.

Congratulations to both Russia(2018) and Qatar(2022) for winning their right to host the World Cups in a fair and democratic process. Open cheque book does the magic trick.

Qatar was the one I picked.

2018 on the other hand should have been HollandBelgium

did you see their bid?  terrible, embarrassing.

Cruyff, Gullit, Pfaff and Hiddink would beat the crap out of your Beckham and Prince Harry :p

Also as you said:

"England went out in round 1 by all accounts.. THAT is a scandal. "

lol haha

so you didnt watch it then?  cringe worthy...  terrible...

its all just bent.

I saw about 10 minutes of the presentation today, but don't have anything to compare it with.

I have a newspaper article saying journalists (from around the world) thought it was great.

ha ha haa haaa

watch all of them on you tube if you can...  worst by a country mile.. only Russia and England had decent presentations.,

I disagree, the USA presentation was pretty bad. Forgetting pages etc.

Belgium/holland was fine,  but nothing spectacular. I think we would have been a better choice than Spain/Portugal and Russia. But I'm happy we didn't win, I don't want my money to fund the corrupt bastards.

Yeah, actually as it turns out, the new economics on the matter tends to show the World Cup actually doesn't help, but hurts local economies.

I don't really ever want the US to host the World Cup.  I'd rather travel somewhere.

Not to Qatar though...

For anyone who is interested, you can watch the presentations here:

True, that's because Fifa demands certain privileges. Such as being exempt of tax and other crazy demands.

The problem is if you don't give into their demands, other crazy countries such as Qatar and Russia will.

Plus you can only sell fifa approved food/drinks/... in an area of ? km/miles around the stadiums. How insane is that. Pubs etc. have to close to cater to fifa's demands.

Averages of 28C min, 44C max for Qatar at June. Holy fuck.

Unless they are planning some ingenious cooling system, matches should be played only at the night if you are anything sane.

But I wonder if broadcasters will allow it. I bet they'd allow players to almost literally die only so more people watch the cup.

its madness

you will be looking at 35 ish for evening games....  daytime games are simply impossible.

Match times are usually set for western Europe so you are looking at games kicking off at around 7pm and 10pm local Qatar time  (4pm and 7pm here).

Yeah haha, I kinda messed up thinking matches would turn out to be later in the evening on Europe and Americas.

Still even 7pm would be too hot and probably sunny there. We'll see squads blaming their bad performance on the hour they are playing...

PS. I was taking a look at projects for the stadiums on Qatar. It turns out they'll build this one among others:

Quite familiar if you ever played FFX

I'm obviously disappointed England didn't get it, though I can see some hope that Russia will pull off a good tournament.

Qatar is a real question mark though. I have no doubt that all of their money will create an excellent spectacle, and a part of me is glad that the middle east, the last area to yet host a world cup, will get one. On the other hand though, do the people in Qatar really have the passion for football to merit hosting a world cup? I would have far preferred Australia, or the USA (or even Japan, just for the possibility of the absolutely mental worldwide 3D display they proposed).

Shame, and you have to suspect corruption amongst FIFA, but there we go. We've still got Brazil 2014, which could be something special.

Remember that they're a good three hours ahead of Britain, two from the rest of Europe. Post-sunset games there would translate to higher viewing-volume times back in Europe. They're actually only an hour ahead of South Africa

Monster Hunter: pissing me off since 2010.
