Up, up, down, down, left, right, left, right, b, a, select, start was your friend back then for 2-player Contra.

I also don't know if it was a glitch because I only did it once, but after beating the final boss and blowing up the island I restarted the game and everything was in a shade of red... could never get it to do that a second time.

If only I knew that back then...

We would've gotten to see what level 2 looked like..

You have my pity...

I feel old.  Mine started like this:

West of House

You are standing in an open field west of a white house, with a boarded front door.
There is a small mailbox here

I couldn't get enough of the GUE, and I've never looked back.

Israel is my nation's ally is it not? That makes you outnumbered, so drop your arms.

Either way, come on man, what the fuck is a rock gonna do to a god damn tank?!

Startle the tank driver?

True, it does have that little hole in the front right? Maybe you could pull off a head shot on the ricochet?

In the Arcades of the late 70's early 80's

I almost feel sorry for anyone under 30 knowing that will never experience the halcyon days of video games.

The smell of Gaming boards being run 18 hours a day under a hot sun.

People peering over shoulders to see the local champ set a high score.

Desperately trying to get the change machine to accept a crumpled note.

The sounds, The games and above all an 8 year old boy who fell in love with Williams Electronics Defender even if he had to stand on a stool to play.....

It will never come to pass again, but I lived it.

I *think* this was the first game I ever played. I was really young so I don't remember alot. What I do remember though is that I used to love playing this game all the time with my brother.

We never got past the first level though...

I would go through the bottom and swim in the water while he went through the top. We always got killed of course..

I have vivid memory of my dad and I playing some game with controllers in front of the TV, but I can't recall what was it exactly, I was too little. The earliest clear memory I have is also this game, I was pretty bad too, but mostly because I didn't play much at the time therefore lack of practise, my dad has a friend whoes son was one of TEH people that can beat the game with one life, he got glasses before the 4th grade,

Yeah, the whole NES/SNES era is a big blur to me. So many great games I wish I could remember :(

Lol @ bolded :D

I had played games before my dad bought me a PS1 when i was, hmm... 3 or 4 maybe? I have Crash bandicoot and Spyro and played them like crazy. Also Final Fantasy VII, my neighbours used to come over and we would take turns, same with FFIX. I had to go alone on FFVIII. Also at a friends house i used to play gran turismo 2, but it wasn't until i bought GT3 on the PS2 that i was a big fan of the series. this might seem random, but I also played a lot of Chocobo's Racing on PS1, (Think Mario Kart but instead Final Fantasy Characters). I've played Final Fantasy since i was a kid, and its the only franchise, that has stayed with me until now, And on the PC side i was playing GTAII where i would take turns with a friend as well.

Grandfather's NES with Super Mario Bros 1 & 2, and others that I can't remember.

I hope to think that many of you started out just like as I did, a young kid sitting at home with nothing to do and just so happened to notice that Daddy had a Nintendo! By a sheer stroke of luck Daddy also had Legend of Zelda!

This is where I started and this is the moment that I hold closest to my heart as a gamer, but is Zelda the title that molded me as the gamer I am today? No, that happened almost 10 years later, when a new friend in a new neighborhood introduced me to Final Fantasy VI.

That game shaped me into the JRPG loving gaming enthusiast that I am today.

So, what game did that to you? What game sucked you in and caused such an incredible love for gaming that it still stuck with you for over 20 years?

Of course this mainly applies to us older people, but feel free to let me know what game(s) you hold closest to your heart. Don't be shy.

I loved the original FF game, however I agree with the FFVI.  6, 4 and 9 are my favorite ones.  Though I would also have to include Zelda: Link to the Past
