Of course it is far far cooler. I'm pretty sure almost everyone will admit this when the sales explode. Heck, DS is cooler than any of the other current generation consoles.

You're right, it is much cooler. Until you grow hair on your nuts. Then you pass it off to the closest 6-year old or lose it in the couch somewhere.
They sell because they are desired by millions of children with parents who buy them for them. They sell because they are cheap and disposable. If you lose one, you can just go buy another. Most people aren't willing to do that with a home console.
Sales don't make it cooler. The game Peg has sold more units worldwide than ANY video game console has. It MUST be cooler. Go play that for a while.

You fail for assuming that the system has only one audience, and ignoring that too many games not meant for children sell big numbers on it. You think a 6 year old wants Brain Age?

I realize that the system has more than one audience. I own a DS myself. The fact is that 85 % of sales are to children age 14 and below. Trust me on this, I worked in advertising for a LONG time. I know exactly who the DS is marketed to.
In all honesty its a VERY good marketing strategy anyway. Market a cheap reliable handheld gaming console to children with games that will appeal to them. Its a win/win strategy, but like I said it also makes it blatantly obvious who the system is marketed to.
Last time I tried to explain this I got banned, which is sad. I'm not bashing the DS, I'm giving legitimate information and praising the DS for its success because of it. Some people REALLY don't like it when you state the obvious for some reason.
And to your last sentence. No, I don't think a 6-year old wants Brain Age. But how many adults do you think want Nintendogs?
