Where does it say 265k in the article?

Or is this based on 6% increase of what VGC has GT4 at?

Chart-Track GT4 launch.

http://www.computerandvideogames.com/article.php?id=116065

Launched last Friday in the UK, Gran Turismo 4 is already one of only four titles that have sold over a quarter of a million units in launch week and has secured the honour of becoming the fourth fastest selling videogame on these shores, the top three being GTA: San Andreas, GTA: Vice City and Halo 2.

Now make maths.

And over 265k could be 300k or more in UK the weakest PS3 country.

Thanks for the link.

But thought i would point out to you that UK is the 3rd biggest PS3 sales country currently and is the most in Europe for PS3 sales with 3.5m units sold. Nearly a million units more then it's nearest competitor and almost more then countries Germany and Spain combined.

Would hardly say that was weak :)

Weakest in terms of relative internal performance... Certainly weakest PS3 country in terms of percentage of the market controlled in Europe

Do you have some numbers to back that up?

Just to use Black Ops as an example here. In 5 days it sold 2m units in UK. 42% of that was on PS3. That is 840k sold in 5 days in UK alone on PS3...

Would love to see some evidence of bigger numbers then that from the other European countries?

Or are you saying in terms of consoles sold other countries have a higher attach ratio? Because if that is what you are saying it doesn't mean other countries sell more games. Because it is like saying country X has 5 consoles sold, those 5 people bought 5 games this week, making it a 100% attach ratio. But country Y has 100 consoles sold, and of those 20 people bought games this week making it a 20% attach ratio. But while the attach ratio is 4x lower then that of Country X it's sales are x3 higher.

Point being in terms of volume of software sold i would think PS3 software sales in UK are much higher then that of the other European countries.

What I'm trying to say is that the 360 is the dominant console in the UK, and so the PS3's UK market is not as significant in terms of its whole European numbers. I don't know about relative attach ratios, but the UK represents under 20% of EMEAA for the PS3 and over 30% of 360

Saying the UK is the PS3's weakest country is not quite the right choice of words, but it is when just considering the battle against the Xbox

I'd say its quite irrelevant who the dominant console is in any territory as the game is exclusive to one console.

265k copies of gt5/ 3,492,218 ps3 = 0.0759 fw attach rate (7.59%)

0.0759 * 19,597,967 =1,487485 copies of GT5 based on exact same attach rate for all of EMEAA.

The only question we need to ask is what is whether the UK first week attach rate for GT5 will be above or below the average for EMEAA.

Disclaimer: numbers taken from VGChartz totals ending wk 20/11/2010 and using highly basic and completely untrustworthy maths skills.

    Before you guys say "meh":

    - GT5 has had NO TV marketing pre-release in UK...and I mean absolutely nothing.

Top Gear doesn't count? :P

Wait, is this good then? I honestly have no clue as to what this means for the EMEAA sales, isn't UK like a 5th of the EMEAA? Sales wise yeah it's kinda great I guess, but still behind the mammoths of this generation.

Disconnect and self destruct, one bullet a time.

to be honest i thought it would have sold more, still good numbers tho

This is pretty much what I expected for it in the UK. The UK is roughly half the size of Japan for "universal" hits that work in every market, and GT5 did 530,000 or so in Japan week one. Real question is Americas.

Someone else said it did 350K in Japan (this seems like a high prediction as well).

Sooo the general census is then that UK is a weak market for GT games based on what people are saying here.

So my question is simple. If UK did 265k first week. What did the other European countries do?

And is there any proof of the numbers of are we going on what one person "estimates"?

First week sales are not that important anyway. It's all about week 2.

lol so I take you made a bet with someone for 2nd week sales?

Just in case you havn't cottoned on (seem like a bright fellow, sure you have) GT to userbase is what they mean by weakest, so I don't think these figures give us any indication of how it did elsewhere.
