Forums - Sony Discussion - will PSN ever have cross game chat?

U know I was amazed okay amazed, in how BAD!! the quality of the Xbox live chat system was when I bought my Xbox 360 2 years ago, because all I heard was Xbox live this Xbox live that, then I got it and noticed that the Voice chat quality was CRAP!! and no one to that point ever even mention it! even the video quality was crap too 90% of video "feeds" (not movies) on on live were not FULL screen lol..... Ya!! need less to say I have not paid for live and until I find a deal dirt cheap I'll probbably never will.

I have had my PS3 since day one and it has the best voice quality chat as good if not better then my cell and I'm sure it can handle cross game chat, why its not there? I though it was because microsoft had a pattent on it?? i don't know but I can't wait....

I don't give a damn about it. I have the official ps3 bluetooth headset and I still don't use it in games.

Sony can't implement because of legal issues if i'm not mistaken..

No.

Sony was planning to add it back in 2009 but they didn't because it caused problems in some games.

Hence, a patent isn't the problem. Its a technical issue.

At this point, I'm guessing the PS4 will have it. I never understood why the feature was missing in the first place but it's practically a moot point now. This gen will be over soon.

This point was debunked by a few developers after the fact, iirc.

We only ever even "found out" about it through some supposed ex-EA employee raving on his blog.

I think I prefer that Sony first improve the quality od sound....I really can't understand NOTHING that they say in mics. I'm not fluent in English. but even in my own language i understand almost nothing in PSN. In PC games like Cs 1.6, is very easy to understand.

why people want this? when i am playing something and my wife (or friends) calls me on my cell and i have to play and chat with her about something i always screw up my gaming or don't listen to her and after the call i can't remember what did i talk about... i find that really annoying (chat about something and play games at the same time). chat with friends on a multiplayer match is no problem for me since we talk about what we are doing in the game and the sentences are usually short and direct.

about the ps3 being able to handle this, i don't believe it is the question since from the launch to this day firmware and OS footprint on the RAM has been shrunken in 70Mb (i beleive) and for the OS Ps3 has always a PSU (core from the processor) that is dedicated... i do believe it has more to do with the PSN resources and connection bandwidth or with 3rd party software that is hard to patch for this to work.

I make use of cross game chat. I moved two states away from my family and friends. It comes in handy. I usually play single player games, well except for SSFIV multiplayer, and when I'm playing single player titles it allows me to game and talk to some friends I don't get to see very often anymore.
