Forums - Sony Discussion - Gran Turismo 5 patch announced to improve performance

Patch is out now.

Gran Turismo 5 v1.02 Update Available for Download

Gran Turismo 5 November 26th, 2010 by Jordan

As was quickly reported here in our forums, the latest 1.02 update for Gran Turismo 5 has just made available for download. 1.02 allows the game to take advantage of Polyphony Digital’s upgraded server infrastructure while enabling maximum power and weight restrictions for online races.

This is apparently the November 27th update that Yamauchi mentioned to Eurogamer, which will “double” the game’s online capacity from 500,000 to one million simultaneous connections.

So now it's 40 minutes install plus patch. Can't wait for the game to arrive in the mail. So that I can play it ... the day after.

I am really puzzled by this so soon after release considering its development history.

The more I read and see and think about it, the more I realise it wasnt finished but Sony have lost patience and said get the thing released.  There can be no other explanation.

I agree. It seems to suggest Sony put their foot down and told PD to get it out before Xmas this year.

What has PD been doing for 5 years? However, I think it's a very good thing if they can get a patch to address the glitches. I would prefer the ongoing patches for performance (and who knows what, down the track), rather than just leaving it the way it is.  Maybe in 1 years time, GT5 will be the 90 rating game we all expected.

I agree with the reviews - as a racer and it's core function, I think GT5 is near on perfect. It's just a little unpolished and that sounds just wrong, coming from Polyphony Digital. The weird menu navigation and it's inconsistencies, plus the texture ripping. The menu inconsistencies do not bother me that much. I also don't see the texture ripping as too severe, but I am surprised these obvious  things were not addressed by PD within a 5 year period.

Maybe they were just adding too much feature sets. There is a lot more to do in GT5 compared to previous GT.

Good to know they're going to support the game. I'll probably get it today.
