Forums - Gaming Discussion - My reviews of bad games (The bargain bin special)

I really enjoyed The Saboteur.  Few things are as entertaining as infiltrating a Nazi establishment while disguised as a Nazi and then tearing it up.  And when you get that perk where other Nazi soldiers don't freak out when you're setting explosives while disguised as a Nazi?  Oh yeah.  I actually 1000 GS'ed that game, and had fun all the way through.  Very solid design and gameplay mechanics.

Hates Nomura.

I'd like to add in Afro Samurai and Shadowrun.... Shadowrun is selling for 5$ last time I checked gamestop... it's a FREAKIN STEAL, check the demo out... but it's also exclusive to 360 and PC. Afro Samurai (availible for both 360/PS3) is about 10-20$ last time I checked gamestop... great buy... but I recommend playing the demo.. it's repititive but if you don't mind slicing and dicing and mastering the combos in the game... you won't mind the repititive aspect of the game so much and will enjoy it.

When was the last time you played Shadowrun?

I'm pretty sure it's multiplayer only and last I heard they shut down the servers.  The game was fun when it had people playing it but as it stands now, it's pretty worthless.

Agree about The Saboteur.  I was pleasantly surprised, and I couldn't stop playing.  It got me through the boring gaming months this year.  It was kinda like Mafia II, where it seemed open world but was also linear.

Systems I Own: PS3, Xbox 360, Wii, 3DS, NES, SNES, N64, Gamecube, PS1, PS2, Dreamcast, Genesis/Sega CD, Atari 2600, Atari Jaguar, Game Boy, GB Advance, Game Gear, Intellivision, PC, Xbox, Sega Saturn, Virtual Boy

good summaries imma get the bourne conspiracy.

I agree with The Bourne Conspiracy. Best Buy had it for like $10, so I decided to buy it. It's a fun game, and there are some pretty neat missions. Also agree with your recommendations on The Darkness and Folklore. Folklore has a very interesting story and a beautiful soundtrack. It also uses the sixaxis feature really well, but the downside of the game is that it's very repetitive. You go through the same levels and fight the same bosses twice. Still, it's a great game.

I'm going to check out The Saboteur, since you recommend some games I enjoyed. You are now on my recommended list. That means I will listen to your recommendations from now on, and yes I do have an ignore list as well.

I played it about a week ago...

Servers are still up... the community might be small but very active. I occasionally come on...so it's not worthless at all. Even if there was no online community you can play local up 2-16 player matches via system link. It's a great buy at 5$.

Be warned though... mostly pros are left... few noobs.

All gaming systems, consoles/PC, have thier perks... why fight over preferences? I like Coke and you like Pepsi, that's it, let's not fight over which toy we like best cause that's what they are. Is someone's preference in a toy important or is the relationship between you and your neighbor more important? Answer is obvious, but THE most important thing is your relationship with God almighty. God Bless you in Jesus's name.

I can communicate without talking... I can send a loved one money without actually sending money... and I can commit theft without the product disappearing, the point of theft is the point of theft not one of it's possible symptoms which is the product dissappearing. The thief wants to gain something without paying for it, that's the point of theft, the thief doesn't have to care or anybody else has to care if the product dissappears. The product dissappearing is just a possible symptom of theft. Gifts are sacrfices, in order to give a gift, it has to be a genuine sacrfice/gift, meaning a copy of the game isn't still in your PC. Piracy is theft and/or being a culprit of theft.

Whooo!! My thread was revived.

I might as well take the opportunity to post a few reviews of the most recent bad games that I've played.

Rise of the Argonauts

It's a cool action RPG with some pretty middle of the road voice acting, heaps of dialogue and weird but decent visuals.

The setting, art style and music are pretty good and it's hard to hate a game based on Greek mythology. It does have some flaws though, the dialogue in the game can get pretty tedious sometimes, it's good but long. The framerate can drop sometimes during heavy combat and overall the game requires some commitment to finish the whole thing. Overall, Rise of the Argonauts is a good action RPG, it's more streamlined compared to similar games, but it is fun and the world does have that mystical charm to it. If your looking for some RPG action on your PS3 or 360 and you can find this for a low price, then it's worth it.

Too Human

It's not as bad as some poeple make it out to be, but when you start playing, you'll feel like crazy people made the game. Too Human is a game that's designed to be addictive, you'll feel compelled to loot, upgrade and explore and some people can get by on just those elements alone. The problem is that the game can be hard to play at first, it uses a twin thumb stick mechanic that makes use the right thumb stick to aim your character and fight. It's confusing at first because of how unorthodox it is, but you do get the hang of it after a few hours.

My main problem with the game though is the story and visuals. The cut scenes are sometimes really badly animated and the story can lose you a bit when it keeps introducing new story elements without actually explaining what's going on. The plot isn't that bad, but it could have been constructed much better and the presentation, even though it's a cross between Mass Effect and Halo, can be pretty inconsistent and lacklustre. If you find that the best part of an RPG is to loot and upgrade, then Too Human is a perfect fit for you, just as long as you get over the controls, the camera and presentation.

Dark Void

It ain't that bad. The only problems I had with Dark Void was that the framerate can get a bit iffy sometimes, the flight controls can be hard to master at first and the indoor visuals can be a little to similar and metallic. Though the game suffers from those problems, I still think it's pretty good. The music is fantastic, it probably has the best and most underrated soundtrack of the year, the voice acting and plot is all good (starring Nolan North), the visuals can jump from breathtaking to bland, the controls are good and the game introduces a few interesting gameplay elements that  keeps the combat interesting.

Using the jet pack to jump above enemies and the come down shooting them, having mid air gun fights and traversing levels vertically with the jet pack are all pretty cool and it also helps that it has a good plot to push you on. If you need a Third Person Shooter with a twist, then for the right price, Dark Void is a good buy.

Bet with Conegamer and AussieGecko that the PS3 will have more exclusives in 2011 than the Wii or 360... or something.
