Forums - Sales Discussion - Why is Xbox so Strong in Americas ?

I'm going to say its the "FPS machine" Killer titles such as Halo and COD are played many highschool/college boys. 360 was the first to hit the market, so it had an advantage. Ads campaigne are also heavier in the US.

Saying that it's because Americans are brainwashed is a very trollish commentary, and while some may have said it joking, I'm sure that a lot of people here believe so. Why some can't accept that there are people with different tastes than theirs, and marketing doesn't have anything to do with it? I find funny that some Sony fans have a superiority complex, and they think that if someone prefer the XBox to the PS, it's because he/she is retarded/brainwashed.

Dont you know the rules...?

Its ok to racially stereotype people from the US and UK.. all other racial slurs will result in a warning or a ban.

Stupid people occupy most of this world, so it's not just the American people really.

Because Microsoft focuses the bulk of their resources on English speaking markets.  This can be seen in everything from marketing, the introduction of new services (ESPN/Netlfix for US only, Sky for UK), and the localization of games.

The only non-English speaking market that Microsoft seems to put any serious effort into is Japan, and even that seems limited to signing exclusive deals with publishers.

Because americans are easy to brainwash.

This and Microsoft is a U.S. company.

Funny though as i'm an American (and I wish I wasn't) and I prefer Japanese products.

Then quit whining and GTFO

Things Americans care about

  • Price - 360 cost of entry is lower
  • Games - mostly what their friends are playing, see COD
  • Having fun with friends and having a good time - yeah, that $5 a month for Live isn't going to stop anyone, I spent more than that in a day at the arcade
  • Things fanboys think Americans care about

  • Graphics - nobody gives a shit, see COD and Wii.
  • "Value" - if all your friends play on the 360, playing on PSN for free and watching bluerays isn't going to get them to switch.  Exception: if your friends are on PSN, you have no friends or you are not buying a PS3 to game on
  • Patriotism - if PS3 sold for $100 nobody would give a shit if it came from a dictatorship using starving children working in a sweatshop.
  • Obscure imports/exclusives from Japan - it's America, not otakuland
  • Reliability - MS replaces the RRODs 3 years out, and it's a nonissue at this point.  Most laptops don't last 3 years either, electronics that cheap become mostly disposable.  Simpler machines were bulletproof, my Atari 800/NES probably still works and I have seen Okidata dot matrix printers take tons of abuse and keep on trucking.
  • Pretty much , Ps3 could be 100$ in Americas that it would not match 360 numbers. Xbox is the coool brand these days with Teens , Cod and Halo makes a huge impact and u know KINECT will do huge.

Your on crack if you think a $100 PS3 couldn't outsell a $200 Xbox, no matter what country your in.

Because its an American company. Same reason Japanese buy Sony and Nintendo products but not Microsoft.

But don't americans buy Wiis and PS3s as well?

    Yeah but not as many.

well from vgchartz the america's have bought more wii's so maybe its just a sony thing than?

I don't know I was just making a theory. Americans are pretty patriotic and usually buy American things instead of foreign things. I think the Wii was an exception because it was the must have console for the last couple years.

Is that why Toyota is the best selling car manufacturer in the US?

I think the US is probably the best example of free market capitalism, no one gives a shit where the product comes from as long as it's good value.

among my friends i am sure i am considered the xbox fanboy, and i would by a ps3 right now at $100, even if the 360 was a $100 too (as i already own one).

It should go both ways, but the mods do as they wish when they wish.

Rules are, it DOES go both ways. I've moderated 3 posts in this thread already.

Topic: Being first to market helped to get it started. And, being closer to the companies that are rising in relevance to modern gaming, making it easier to work with them, does help in the market where both are located. Several other smaller factors have already been mentioned, so I don't see a need to reiterate them.

I'm pretty sure Beuli2 was just joking though....going with the kind of posts he's been making recently.

maybe he was... doesnt alter the general rule.

No it doesn't but just so mods don't ban Beuli for joking

thats a very odd response...   a racist joke is ok now then?

Yeah because Beuli2 banned in DKCR launch week would be horrible
