Wow. I think we may really be seeing a change of leadership globally in the console market. It really looks like PS3 is the new primary console in EMEAA (minus UK) and Japan and 360 is taking over America's (though mostly US) an UK. I know it is far from enough data yet to say definitely but the evidence is starting to mount week after week and it is really looking like  a trend. This is going to be an interesting holiday.

"globally"

globally the ps3 is doing fine in EMEAA and Japan, but America not so much

globally the 360 is doing fine in America and the Uk, but EMEAA and Japan not so much

You can claim a change in global leadership when one of them actually LEADS GLOBALLY for an entire year, like the Wii as been doing on a constant basis, instead of a couple of short burst.

As I said, and you repeated, 360 leading in US/UK and PS3 leading in the rest of the world. That is YTD, not just this week, month, quarter, the entire year. That is not just a short burst, that is consistent. IF, and I understand this is a big if, the trend continues through the holiday I think they will continue through next year and the current relative placements will hold. This is what my point was that we may be "seeing" a change, as in it is happening now, not that it has happened. I am suggesting that this holiday may be the turning point and that next year at this time we will see exactly what you are asking for, a year ending in which the Wii is not the global leader.

I think this level of uncertainty is fun and gives us all an opportunity have some good discussions, so try not to be so defensive and maybe discuss why you think the trend will not continue if you disagree.

For my part I think the trend will continue, though the Wii may still win this holiday the margin is going to be tiny compared to years past, because at this point in past years Wii had already started pulling ahead yet we are not seeing that yet. You can point to Kinect and Move launches as well big software titles but Wii has had the red bundle and some of its big titles launch as well.

Why do people think that GT5 is going to affect PS3 sales?

This game is a bit like Halo in the United States.  That's the impact it has.  The game is Sony's biggest Killer App.  Historically, the game has destroyed worlds.  One actually reached 15 million. You can justtell by the preorders and mounting hype.  There'll be a pretty decent boost.

Wow talk about overrating "destroyed worlds" lol, its really not that hard to be Sony's biggest killer app. Both of Microsoft's biggest killer apps stand above every game released by sony this gen.

I think historically GT has sold more than Halo and Gears per game on average.  So no.  And I was having fun with the "destroyer of worlds" thing.

I know you were kidding about the destroyer part, but will GT outsell Halo Now!!! Just like playstations dominance is in the past, GT went with it.

We won't know till release I guess  :)    I mean, it's not gonna sell 15 million, but the game has never existed when Sony wasn't killing everyone.  I  expect 8 to 10 million hopefully.  Not bad for a third place console! :P

I really don't see evidence for that idea in any of Sony's other IP's.  GoW and Ratchet and Clank both had comparable sales to previous entries of the series on PS2, I see no reason that GT is just going to magically drop in popularity when none of Sony's other IPs have done that.

Actually, God of War III is selling better than its predecessors ! The Collection must have helped out a lot.

Awaiting GT5 onslaught, PS3 has EMEAA this holiday locked.

Haha! You're just itching to deliver that sweet, hot, sexy crow to  all comers aren't you?

After we see the numbers....Everybody get down, CGI's about to post! He's got.....quotes!  AHHH

Kinect adventures under tracked in NA last week, adjusted up.  Nice sales all the way around.

wonder if we are going to see more sales for kinect adventures  in EMEAA next week.

@ Torillian

I was talking about GT outselling Halo, sorry but thats not gonna happen and you know it.

@ Billsalias

Is the ps3 above the wii worldwide? No

Is the 360 above the wii worldwide? No

So neither one of them is leading globally obviously. I am well aware of them not being as far behind as they once were, (even though they are lol, the wii past dominance didn't just disappear), but i am also aware of neither one of them actually leading this year, so the wii at its worst is still greater than them at their best wow. All im saying is even if the wii gets outsold next year by 20 million its still gonna be the market leader so how are they leading still baffles me. December still has yet to begin and you know just as well as i know a wii comeback is more likely to happen and the wii will probably take each territory. Even if it doesn't it still takes 2010 and it still remains 30 million units ahead of them both.

OK, I try one more time before I give up. I am not discussing who is ahead globally in unit sales, I am discussing a permanent change in relative position in all regions globally so please stop telling me that the Wii world wide total is largest. I am also not discussing the past, I am discussing a prediction of the future, so telling me number for the past is not relevant to this discussion. Remember you are responding to my original post, if you do not want to discuss the topic I propose then don't, if you do want to discuss it then respond to the content of the post don't just spout facts that have no bearing on my point.

And one more time I will summarize my point. I think right now we are seeing the turning point for a change in the ongoing relative sales positions of consoles for all regions globally. I think for the next 12 months in total, and thereafter, we will see 360 lead the US and UK and the PS3 lead the rest of the world. Yes the Wii may do well enough this holiday to win this year but it will not do well enough to offset it's losses next year.

This one was made first right?

^_^

@billsalias

And you know how well they are all going to do next year how? I completely understand what your saying by the way and you have every right to make what ever prediction you want, but it sounds like your certain and that's all Im trying to correct. I would like to know who you think will lead in worldwide sales next year though.
