I won't compare the multiplayer, since I don't play CoD online for many reasons. Also, I didn't play CoD2 and CoD3 (and all the other random ones).

Anyways, I remember when I played the single player campaign in MW for the first time, it was awesome. When I look back at it though, I think WaW had the better one. Then MW2 released and I thought the last couple of missions in it were brilliant (the intro to the Gulag mission still impresses me today). Black Ops' campaign is complete shit, 'nuff said.

Now, for replay value, WaW has Zombie mode, but Black Ops' is better. MW2 had Spec Ops and I've had lots of fun with it with friends. Black Ops has Combat Training and that's a big plus, but it's still CoD multiplayer (I get bored with it easily).

So, for the overall package I prefer MW2 over the rest. I'm probably the only one though...

I may try the singleplayer for MW2 soon thanks to you. My hands are full at the moment though.

The story sucks ass. Be prepared to be confused! The music is great and the pacing is pretty much perfect though. It's an Infinity Ward game after all!

This will wait until after I complete Alan Wake then.

Love the product, not the company. They love your money, not you.

Call of Duty, the very first one.

When it came out, it went besides almost all conventions for not only WWII games but FPS games in general. It depicted realistic scenarios (most of which were lifted from real happenings and operations), it incorporated team play like no other game before it. The AI was very good for its time with enemies flanking and using grenades cleverly instead of simply rushing ahead to stand in the line of fire, it also had some fresh and exciting chase scenes as well as great variation in missions that I had never seen before (from parachuting down alone into a field, driving tanks, escaping in a convertible to getting thrown into Stalingrad frontlines without a weapon). And the thing that really set it apart that all other CoD games after have continued; pacing. This game was just so frantic and different, stress levels actually rose from knowing that the enemies were deadly and you didn't have unlimited ammunition nor did you have an unlimited number of teammates so if one of them died it could make a big difference. The multiplayer was also great fun, with realistic weaponry, limited ammo, fun maps and addictive gameplay in its own kind of naive simplicity.

All in all, this game shocked me, I was used to the shooter where you walk around at your own leisure through corridors with pipes with every odd enemy jumping in front of you shouting boo, finding no cover, simply spraying bullets or melee charging heedlessly. There was no sense of danger, or subsequently, accomplishment to what you did (imo). Call of Duty had its weaknesses for sure but they were rather few and in summary I can honestly say that it is easily top three in my shooter favourite list!

This was actually a hard decision for me.

Call of Duty 2 still has *imho* the best single player campaign out of all the cods. It was actually the best launch title for the 360 and got the most attention from me till Oblivion and Ghost Recon came out (many months later) but the multiplayer was mainly broken by a rather large amount of lag issues.

Black Ops seems the best well rounded: Awesome SP campaign, and most balanced/mp features to date for a COD game, however...

... Modern Warfare 1/COD4 was the first game to really garner everyones attention and the first FPS on consoles to dethrone Halo in both name and sales. The multiplayer experience, while a  bit fustrating and taken advantage by exploiters and modders, was the best thing out there since bread and butter. The single player campaign was a bit short but it was sweet. It also features my favorite COD character(s): Soap McTavish and Captain Price.

It's just that simple.

COD World at War reigns supreme because its campaign was coop. This alone makes it the best.

I never got into COD 4 for as long as the others since so I think it is overrated.

Modern Warefare two was better than 4, for the campaign and online, but withut a coop campaign it fails.

I am In no hurry to get Black OPs because I will never buy an Activision game new, (fuck their philosophy) but I know with =out a coop campaign it will never be better  than world at war.

Edit: bought black ops it is great but I am yet to play the campaign and since there is no coop it still cannot beat World at war.

So I finally casted my vote for my favorite and I must say that Black Ops has won me over.  The online multiplayer is so much fun!  I find myself wanting to play all the time, when I'm not at work of course.  The race was really close between World at War and Black Ops.

black ops,the single player campaign actually half way made sense and the variety of locations was amazing. It had vietnam levels, vietnam levels dam it. lol

COD 4. It was the first FPS I ever purchased and if it never came out I doubt I would've spent money on any of the FPS games that have come out since. The single player just blew me away.

I am the Playstation Avenger.
