Forums - Website Topics - VGC never gave a review score of 10. Do you think GT5 will change that?

i don't think so and if they do they'll  be the only site to give 1 game a perfect score.

To answer the question - no, not at all. Signal is reviewing GT5 by the way, not me.

I don't ever see us giving a game a 10. I certainly hope we don't, anyway. Not sure how the other content editors feel, but that's how I feel.

I start getting antsy whenever someone proposes a score above 9.2 for a game. Blind panic sets in at about 9.5 or over. I dunno what a 10 would do to me, but I'd rather not find out :/

So your a bit antsy right now then eh?

Racing game which potentially has the most quality/quantity ever should NOT get less than any other racing game VGS has ever rated atleast. :)

I seriously doubt GT5 will be better than GRiD, which is imo the best racer ever. I don't expect a lot of people to agree with me, but at least GRiD proves you can have an amazing racegame with just 50 or so cars. For me a race game is about the racing, not the car porn. Not suggesting that GT5 won't have good racing, I obviously haven't played it yet.

People saying there is no such thing as a perfect game should look into Tetris.  Tetris games start at 10/10, and they get docked points for flaws that they add to the perfect formula.  Other games start at 7 for some reason, and they struggle to work their way up to 9 or down to 6.

As for GT5, it's not even a racing game, so comparing it to other racers is pointless.  It will probably be our highest rated virtual carshop simulation app though.

Hope you're not being serious. O_o

No. Fallout 3 only got an 8.3 and it was the best game of 2008 so best game of 2010 I'd expect maybe an 8.1 from GT5.

wise words

I agree because I like my arcade-sim racer hybrids.

It's kinda like how I call Pokemon a pet simulator game.

This, I agree with wholeheartedly. A score over 9, for me, is a game that would stand the test of time. Over 9.5, for me, means if I were on a deserted island with power, that one game could keep me happy.

Unfortunately, the site doesn't quite agree with me on the other thing I wish video game reviews would do. The average of 0 and 10 is 5, thus an average game should get a 5, not a 7-8. Think about it for games- what's the difference between a 3.0 and 2.5 on a 10-point scale? Both would be called absolute shit.

That comes down to your own definition of average imo. To me I expect every game to be fun and functional if those two criteria are met the game is average-good to me which would be a 7. If the game isn't all that fun or all that functional that is when you dip into the mediocre to abysmal category which is 5 and below.

Different POV, I can respect that, but it does leave me one question: why is there such a large range for games that are essentially non-functional?

-On a quest for the truly perfect game; I don't think it exists...

Just wondering, for all the people who think the maximum score should never be used, how big does the scale need to be?  100pt? 10pt? 5pt?  Thumbs up/Thumbs down? At what point is a "perfect" score acceptable?  Should every game be a thumbs down if thumbs up is the highest score possible?
