I don't think Nintendo or Sony will follow the movement. And besides, mind control is just around the corner!

I think Nintendo is putting billions into mind control.

Sony on the other hand is probably already cloning Kinect technology for their next PS Eye device.

After all the stuff Sony said about buttons, it would be extremely ironic of them to copy Kinect.

Well they've said a lot of stupid crap over the years.

Now they made motion remotes similar to something very popuar. Why not make a motion tracking camera similar to something very popular to go with it?

This is the start of the future I believe. all games eventually will be controlled with your body...kinect is the first step there! today is perhaps the biggest day in the videogame industry ever...go 360!

Absolutely not.  The heart of gaming centers around hardcore gamers.  Kinect does NOTHING to promote hardcore gaming.  In fact, just the opposite.

That's what people said about controllers versus mouse and keyboard, but controller-based gaming eventually made some huge leaps and bounds and advances in "hardcore" gaming as you put it.

Have a little imagination, why don't you?  I'm pretty sure he said Kinect was the first step in a larger evolution, just as the old Atari joystick or what have you was the first step in the 360 controller or the Dualshock or whatever controller you now like.  It's an evolutionary process, no doubt set in motion by the Kinect/Wiimote/Move etc/  Would we have the iPhone games we have had it not been for the DS touch screen?  Maybe?  Would we have had the DS touch screen without the Gameboy?  Maybe.

To flatout say that controller-less gaming has no future and will never reach the hardcore is pointless, imagination-less and silly.

I'd put more money on controller-less 3D holographic gaming being the eventual future of hardcore gaming than I would on anyone using any traditional input.

But I am wise enough to not speak in absolutes.

I live in reality like the one here...

...that was earlier pointed out.

Hackers are poor nerds who don't wash.

This thread is high on the unintentional comedy scale!

What people tend to forget is that while it might be true now that hardcore gamers prefer the controller, it is still based on your generation. Your generation is getting old and a new one will take over. If the new one finds motion sensing like Kinect more comfortable than the controller then the gaming will move that way. It doesn't mean that hardcore games will be gone, you just gotta suck it up and admit that the way we play will change eventually and there's nothing you can do about it but enjoy it while it lasts.

Proof here:

It always takes and older generation to die before new radical ideas become the norm, but your post makes it sound like most of the people posting here are 70 and 80 year old gamers who are about to die. Most of us are young adults or teenagers so its not like the young kids playing motion control games will overwhelm us old ass 20 something year olds and alll gaming will involve more motion.

But there has been one thing that has ALWAYS been with video games... Buttons.  And that is NOT going to change anytime soon.  Even Microsoft admitted to it.

no it isnt, not trying to sound like im putting down the kinect or anything but as im sure you know the ps2 did something similar

The greatest day of gaming is when Sony says so

Pretty much this.

Why didn't the thread end on this definitively true statement?

All hail the KING, Andrespetmonkey

I think the biggest day in gaming was when the Ps1 released with it came

Mature games

games that weren't for little kids or the casual genre, games that had story in them.

Games that appealed to a older audience.

1st step into something that the hardcore will never care for.
