Forums - Microsoft Discussion - What news or anecdotal evidence of the Kinect launch from the US???

Went to Best Buy and Walmart.  Plenty of console bundles with Kinect left, but Best Buy was down to 2 standalone Kinects left out of an initial stock of about 50 and Walmart had just 1 left (didn't ask their initial stock).  I'm sure those are gone by now.

I asked the Best Buy employee about Kinect and he said they had been selling rapidly all day and even quite a few console bundles had been sold.

While out today stopped at Costco and BestBuy.  Both out of standalone Kinects.  Costco has a pallet of 250GB Kinect bundles at the registers (1st time I have seen Costco do this with a console).  Costco only has non Kinect 4GB 360s.  At BestBuy I only noticed 250GB bundles.  MS and Sony both had people demoing Kinect and Move and the crowd was at the Kinect demo.

EDIT: Just noticed that on Target.Com that sensor, 4GB, and 250GB all sold out.

US and EUROPE . This add on will kick some ass!!!

Aus is pretty much going bananas for Kinect, I work at Dick Smith and there will be a permanent end cap (we  have 4 in the store) till christmas at least.

Saw about 3 Kinect ads on UK TV yesterday. The hype has started.

Ad was a take on the Nintendo style advertising (showing the player). Strangely, only a single shot of gameplay could be seen. Even the old Ninty ads showed more actual gameplay.

On Saturday, I was in Best Buy and had a chance to demo kinect.  They had the raft game playing and it was actually a lot of fun.  Lots of people would come by and try it out.  It was kind of entertaining to watch people who normally wouldn't go near somehting like this just stand their and start playing.

On the sales side.  They had about 6 or 7 standalones and plenty of bundles available so they weren't sold out.  This was the day after however so they may have brought more standalones out after friday.

Well gamesradar says it didn't sell out at its launch event......then again there were tons of it there.

So MS expected them all to be sold out but there were still a bunch left unsold after the event?

I don't know what to think of this.

Didn't all these rumours say that if you don't preorder you won't get a Kinect on launch day?
(and some shops even stopped taking pre-orders)

Large in the States, I've seen quite a bit of buzz. Can't speak for EMEAA, but I imagine a boost there too, just not as big. Japan may actually give it a shot too, but it'll probably perform as good as (or slightly worse) than Move.

Japan? I have no faith in Japan doing anything for Kinect really.... Some people in the US have trouble with space, no chance Japanese citizens will have the space. I have been in many Japanese apartments (although Tokyo only) and I can't imagine anyone having the space for it.

Of course, I might be wrong.

Looks like it'll be a very good X'mas for the 360...

Kinect Reportedly Selling Out Around the Country

After a few days on sale, the 360 motion control device is already shaping up to be a big hit.

By Kris Pigna, 11/06/2010

Kinect went on sale in North America just a few days ago, and so far it's been a pretty great week for the motion-sensing camera: Not only is it not racist, but reports are flooding in from major retailers -- including Best Buy, Target, Amazon, and GameStop -- that it's selling out across the country, indicating big holiday sales for Microsoft on the horizon.

"We've seen a tremendous amount of excitement and demand for [Kinect] and saw lines at our midnight openings around the country," said Best Buy's Chris Homeister to USA Today. "We are currently sold out online, but we continue to work with Microsoft to obtain product shipments now and throughout the holiday season."

Target says it's similarly sold out of Kinects on its online store, both the individual units as well as the bundles with Xbox 360 consoles. Amazon.com and GameStop both say they've sold out of individual Kinects online, but still have some console bundles in stock. Walmart, meanwhile, says its stores still had some Kinects in stock, but anticipated that "there is going to be very high demand for these products," according to Walmart's Ravi Jarawala.
