For the people on here saying it is no big deal.  I'm glad because it means you haven't experienced anything approaching the terror of a mob lynching.  I haven't either, so I'm not making a moral judgement.

If a black man or woman over 60, from the south, were to tell me it is not a big deal, then I'll agree with you.

You would be able to find someone who would tell you that.  However, that's not really a good reason to agree it's not a big deal.

My thoughts are as follows

A) Why the heck would anyone dress like that?

B) Who the hell would give them first place.

C) Why the hell would the police be able to press charges about this?  The fact that the police apparently can press charges about this thing makes me glad I don't live in canada.

they cant.  one of them(the one in blackface iirc) is a retired police officer even.

Oh good, thought maybe they could justify it under one of the hate crime laws.

I think the whole thing is a big deal, but not news worthy... should of been people AT the party saying "Hey that's not cool" and that shoulda been it.

i actually really like this costume tbh.  dressing up as one of society/historys little demons rather than some generic ghost/devil/witch/etc.  i think it shows how far behind us and fringe this sort of behaviour really is.

I think it says there it isn't classified as a hate crime.

Also, for A and B, because it's fun :P

Reminds me of the South Park episode where they dressed as ghosts to scare away the rich black people moving into town.

Yet, today, America's leaders are reenacting every folly that brought these great powers [Russia, Germany, and Japan] to ruin -- from arrogance and hubris, to assertions of global hegemony, to imperial overstretch, to trumpeting new 'crusades,' to handing out war guarantees to regions and countries where Americans have never fought before. We are piling up the kind of commitments that produced the greatest disasters of the twentieth century.

I'm gonna be honest. I thought this thread was gonna have a bunch of hot, half-naked, jaw-dropping sluts in hooker costumes.

I'm pretty disappointed.

OT: The KKK are pretty damn scary, so as long as it's only on Halloween, I don't see the problem. It's when they're roaming the streets on your normal Wednesday morning, that's when you should be worried.

Bet with Conegamer and AussieGecko that the PS3 will have more exclusives in 2011 than the Wii or 360... or something.

Should people that didn't even attend the party even care about this? There might be KKK  breakfast meeting going on right now where they're in full uniform. Should they get media attention too? On the other hand, if someone dressed like that at a halloween party that I was attending, it wouldn't end well for them.

Why would anyone dress up like that?

I mean, I'm a bit disgusted.

Canadian law is surprisingly different from our own in the regard that they don't defend free speech as zealously as we do. Quite strange, because you never really think of Canada as being that different
