Forums - Gaming Discussion - What's stopping PS4 to be sold for $600 again @ launch?

I waited for the huge price drop on PS3 I got the slim version which was the best decision in my gaming life and would do it again on PS4 if it ever drop themprice at $299 thank you very much.

I have a feeling consoles won't be priced as toys next gen guys... take into account the longevity and the possibility for better technology that a high starting price brings, as long as you start selling hardware for profits already. $450-600 seems like a nice start for next gen consoles.

Be satisfied if the PSP2 releases for only $400 instead. Isn't it supposed to be super tech and halfway between a normal portable and the iPad?

blu ray was the biggest reason that the ps3 cost so much.  ps3 will see a sucessor in a few years time and i'm not even hearing a whisper of a new tech to be released so i imagine that the ps4 will stick with blu ray again.  that means sony can have a much better stated system without nearing the rise in cost...imo.

Think what it is is that the economy is finally levelling out and prices are still rising. I think sony knows if they want their product sold then they have to drop their prices.

I should probably point out that that graph is actually slightly broken as of late, I am fairly sure those are the numbers pre-adjustment

Anyway, the reason they won't is because the console barely sold at $600 and it was only when they cut the price that it really took off

I think SolidSnake_4RD got it

The PLAYSTATION BRAND was unstoppable before the PS3

The PS3 whether we like it or not has damaged the brands power by a lot.

SONY can't afford to launch the PS4 at $599 because the brand simply isn't as powerful as it was.

And what PS3 has done sales wise this gen is AMAZING....going from being outsold by the GBA weekly at the start of the gen to its sales now

NO CONSOLE has ever done this before......this is an "EXCEPTION".....its not guaranteed this kind of a sales comeback can happen again and again.

$400 is the best price point for PS4.... IMO

All hail the KING, Andrespetmonkey

...however if you are serious. Simply put. They can't. Sony doesn't have the pull with retailers, third parties, or consumers to get away with launching a $600 console again. If it weren't for RROD, they probably wouldn't have been able to recover from such a poor decision. Sony had the biggest most influential brand name in gaming and they still couldn't sell a $600 console.

Given how they've faltered with the PS3 and PSP, Sony needs to get off to a fast start next gen if they hope to regain what they've lost. A $600 PS4 would be going head to head with $250-$300 Wii2 and $300-$400 Xbox 720. Without the momentum of the PS1 and PS2's success they'd be toast.

I doubt Sony would make same mistake twice.

"In video game terms, RPGs are games that involve a form of separate battles taking place with a specialized battle system and the use of a system that increases your power through a form of points.

Sure, what you say is the definition, but the connotation of RPGs is what they are in video games." - dtewi

Common Sense much?
