Forums - Sales Discussion - Rock Band 3? Flop? The death of a genre?

well, partly this might be because their keyboard plus game bundles have been shipped in way too low quantities - I ordered mine one month before release and currently it looks like I'll get it end of nov/early dec

btw @ people who want this/any genre to die) you are some sad haters raging over things others enjoy

@markers ive been wondering how come they dont do that, it would be cheaper, The audience will always be interested and then they cant be blamed for oversaturation. Did we really need a Band Hero??? Sports games need to do this too

83 songs for $60 vs 83 for $2 each, I fail to see how it would be cheaper and Band Hero wasn't even HMX

If they just stuck with Rock Band 1 the online would be terrible (everyone would only have RB1 songs, as opposed to now where the majority have RB 1,2 and 3 songs with some DLC in common

A new main game every two years makes a lot more sense than only one a gen

I think people are answering themselves as to why this didn't sell when the most compelling new aspects are apparently an $80 and a $150 (that hasn't been released) peripheral.

I have the first Rock Band and I bring it out at parties from time to time. What I do is check the new DLC since the last time I played, buy a few songs, play them then forget about it for a month or 2. Rinse and repeat.

No need for RB2 or 3.

Signature goes here!

The expected thing to say here is that it is deserving, but it's the first time they really changed up the formula since the introduction of the genre, for the better.

It's actually quite deserving of better sales, maybe it burnt its bridges? Or like many have said, it's just too many peripherals to own. It should pick up for the holidays I think.

Except that from today on, DLC only works with RB3. Plus, it's much better for parties now since you can hop in and out mid-song and change your difficulty in the middle of the song if you are failing too fast

On Topic: Wait for the NA numbers. As far as I know very few keyboard peripherals were sent overseas, as they barely had enough for this side of the pond. For me, that was the biggest attraction for the upgrade. With the steep pricetag though, I could see this being more of a holiday seller instead. I just knew I was getting the keyboard bundle over a month in advance.

I sure hope you mean new DLC because I'd be pissed if they blocked my already purchased DLC (I don't think they can but who knows)

Yes, I mean new DLC starting with The Doors. They changed the file format, presumably to allow for keyboard, pro drums, harmonies and other features. The old games won't be able to read the new files, so they won't even show up in your music store.

Also, I read somewhere that the music genre's sales have been bad since 2008..... that's when Rock Band 2 came out. I have a feeling this game will do really well for holidays since it's much more family oriented than warriors of rock

Edit: I just realized, the game was just released on Friday. This article is talking about a game that was released on the 29th for a week ending the 30th. So what is this, one or two days of sales in one country? Plus, this game has no advertising so most people probably don't know that it's even out yet.

Then, in the frozen lands of Albion, they were forced to eat Harmonix's minstrels.  And there was much rejoicing.

One genre I won't miss
