So do the recent financial results make it more likely that a new console from Nintendo will appear before the holidays in 2012?  I would say there is no doubt it will happen now.

I'd like to see on in Holidays 2011 too, but I think that's not likely.

I honestly can't see them releasing it later than holiday 2012 either. I just hope that their profit margins allow for a system that can hold it's own against the 720/PS4 in terms of power so that we don't run into this same "last gen" excuse again, though it goes without saying that yet another new innovation would be ideal, in addition.

I think Nintendo is ecstatic about Move and Kinect because it means neither Sony or M$ will realistically be able to do a new console now until at least 2014.

So I don't think it would need to be on par with a 720/PS4, just be slightly more powerful than the 360/PS3 and release a Mario and Zelda in HD at launch and you would sell ridiculous numbers of consoles.

I wish they would take their time with the next console from a gamer standpoint.  I'm perfectly happy with what they are currently doing.  I never find myself saying, man i wish this game looked better.  I understand they're going to do what is good business sense, but i am in now in any hurry to have a new console althought it's always very exciting.

I don't think we'll have to wait until 2013 before we recieve one. Anyway 2011 is 5 years after the Wii launch so it could be ready as early as then. However the real question is whether they are ready to release or not, that is the significant factor noone here can reliably say. Without knowing that, even if they felt they wanted to release a new console next week they obviously couldn't so motivation doesn't explain everything.

Nah, PS3 and 360 are both future proof. If GT5 doesn't max out PS3 then a console with, let's say 1, 1/3 the power should be able to do just about anything a gamer could ever want. Development costs are to high right now anyway. Only games like Zelda and COD can afford to use any more power. And, by the looks of it, COD sales are going to drop from now on. MW2 is this gens San Andreas.

I think they'll release it in 2012. But then again, they recently released some comparison charts, wii & ps2, and showed that the wii isn't losing as much momentum as people think it is because it's outselling the PS2 in a year-2-year comparison. And since they don't have to compete with a new set of consoles any time soon as the HD twins just enterred the motion gaming market and need about 3 to 4 years to really profit from it.

I'll add that holiday 2011 should be the last xmas for Wii. And for PS4 and Xbox720 we'll see both at holiday 2012 along with the Wii2.

Hard to say. 2011 will be the year the new Zelda hits the Wii, so it wont be 2011. Starfox has yet to hit the Wii, so they may use that to fuel through 2012.

The Wii came out in 2006, so 2012 would be a 6 year lifespan. The GameCube came out in 2001. with a 5 year lifespan (and much less success in the market than the Wii). The N64 came out in 1996, with a 5 year span, also falling beind the PS One. The Snes released in 1991, had great success and a 5 year span.

So, signs would say that Nintendo is comfortable with a 5 year span for its consoles, but no news this E3 for a new home console, which means that no 2011 - 5 years from the release. Will they push BEYOND 6? I cant see them doing that, when everyone is pushing for HD now more than ever.

The question we must ask is - will they try and wait until 3d TV tech is mastered to the point the screen works like the 3DS - interpreting the 3d graphics without a need for glasses? And how long will that process take?
