Forums - Gaming Discussion - kinect is impractical room size

What the hell, doing my title edit, it should be 'needs' not 'is' and it posts my incomplete thread

anyways:

Is MS targeting the Rich or something?

you need like so much space to play the dam thing?

really who has the room to play the kinect. The dam thing needs to much room. I was considering it but the fact you need a heap of space i dont have. I thought it would be eye toy space were you stand up around 1-2 meters away from camera but its saying you need much more than that.

Of Course That's Just My Opinion, I Could Be Wrong

how much space exactly? i'm fine with space unless its really far that i can't see what is going on in the screen.

Six feet between you and the sensor, which isn't so bad for westerners (more of a problem for Japan).

For comparison's sake, I sit about three feet away from my PsEye, but then nothing stops me from sitting further away from it. Oh yeah, I have a small room :(

2 meters is fine.

You're right, the space requirements are too high!

The manual says "the *ideal* range is 5 to 9 feet away from the camera".  9 feet!  That's crazy....oh wait, that's from the Playstation Move manual.

The Kinect manual recommends 6 feet for 1 player and 8 feet for 2 players.  So 2 meters for a single player, exactly what you were hoping!  Another crisis avoided.

KINECT IS TEH D0MED!

Really guys? Why do we care about the space requirements? It's the same for Wii.

Just to prove how wrong this is, I've played full motion games in the back of a car while driving down the highway. Nothing like bowling or tennis, but the Wii really doesn't need a lot of space.

I'd say Kinect has the same space requirements as the PS3 eyetoy/move.

Anyways, haven't we had this thread enough times already?

If you drop a PS3 right on top of a Wii, it would definitely defeat it. Not so sure about the Xbox360. - mancandy

I was trying to have some console sensitivity. So if I compared Kinect to Wii, then maybe people wouldn't think I was trolling. Which wasn't the intent from the start.

4 to 8 feet depending on placement and it auto configures.
