it would interesting acquisition, but probably a little more work than they would like to take on... and if sony is already doing the "pay more for our shit cause we tell you too" how is apple going to improve upon it.  make people pay in body parts from now on?

isn't the bolded what everyone does? , unless the marketing was "don't buy our shit because we tell you to!", which i've never seen anyone do before.

no, it ist.  how could all companies want people to pay more for their product than anyone elses?

At first I thought there was no way Apple could afford them but I'm surprised at how low Sony's Market Cap is, I expected it to be higher

isn't their Market Cap more than that?

http://www.wikinvest.com/stock/Sony_(SNE)/Data/Market_Capitalization

don't know where Arcturus found that number.

Your link has Sony's approximate market cap ($33B). The number I provided ($17B) was in response to haxxiy question of how much money would be needed to buy 51% of Sony's shares.

Maybe Apple would like to buy only part of Sony - just the gaming division. That would be a lot cheaper for Apple than buying all of Sony.

Cost is not the issue at all, they can afford all of Sony easily

Maybe, but it would also be easier to manage, easier to assimilate, and easier to actually accomplish (since some people say that the Japanese government would oppose Sony being sold, and that makes sense). Not saying it's going to happen, personally I don't see any of this happening, just that this would be more likely.

It already is.

Sony and MS both bought their way into the industry using basically the same playbook.

iBravia TV's, iXBR TV's, iRay movies, iStation, iPSN, iPSEye, iMove, iEyeToy, ixPlosion audio... the possibilities are endless. :)

Apple can already make these things without Sony. Apple doesn't want to get into TVs and most of this other stuff because it is such a low margin business which is contrary to their business model.

I know that. I was just joking. Hence the smiley!

The entire idea of Apple buying Sony is absolutely ludicrous. It would be good for neither company or consumers. They exist in two completely different worlds in terms of their product lines (except audio players and laptops), their philosophies and their target markets. The only thing they have in common is that they both create premium electronics at a premium price.

I could understand a partnership between the two but I can't see either one buying out the other unless they both agree to write up a contract saying they want to go down together as the single greatest electronics downfall in history.

Why am I the only one who zeroed in on the Adobe mention in that list? To me that strengthens their position more than any of the others. It would give them a pretty tight grip on online content.
