I bought the PC version, it has been patched.
I had the PS3 version of Fallout 3, I put maybe 60 hours into that and had maybe 10-12 crashes
New Vegas? 5 Crashes in 25 hours, and 3 of them were in a 2 hour period (really bothered me)
So 2 Crashes in the other 25 is not too bad.... Most PC games seemed to do at least that. I think with all 5 of my crashes I may have lost 30 minutes of playtime... autosave saved me here once (about 2 hours since last hard save)
Had some framerate issues on the strip, the patch seamed to fix that for the most past, it still gets a little slow when going into VATS sometimes..
I'd give the game a 9.3 with the bugs, none are even close to gamebreaking, It will be a 9.8 IMO once they fix the minor issues. Awsome awsome game. Better than Fallout 3 in most ways, in fact I think the only reason it is even close in my mind is I bought the GOTY edition for the PS3... So it seemed alot bigger than it really was.
End of 2009 Predictions (Set, January 1st 2009)
Wii- 72 million 3rd Year Peak, better slate of releases
360- 37 million Should trend down slightly after 3rd year peak
PS3- 29 million Sales should pick up next year, 3rd year peak and price cut

till today, I still feel sour to Gametrailers (or was it someone else?) for docking points for Wipeout HD because it recycled tracks and ships from older games but overlooked the fact that the game was a brilliantly put together piece of awesomeness, with only one real bug to speak of. Yet NV is getting everyone jizzing left right and centre when clearly the game is incomplete. Yes I'm aware it's a huge game trying new things but that's not a real excuse in my opinion as it seems quite a few of the bugs that originally happened in F3 is happening in NV as well. I remember people talking about enemies spawning in mid-air and falling to their death, happened to me a couple of times and by the sounds of things, this hasn't been fixed. If it had been a lesser known company, I doubt that they would get away it. |
some games can make up for being short by being great in other areas, a game that is awesome for 4 hours is still better than a 40 hour piece of crap. Having said that if the game is short then reviews should at least mention it which I believe most reviewers do, and points should be docked if the enjoyment of the game is harmed by it's length.
games should be docked for copy and pasting old content as people could just get the content from the old game so there is less need to get the new one, as long as they still gave the game a fair rating I don't see the problem. But if the game still had new content and mechanics in other areas that outways the the copied stuff than yes the game should get a high score.
As for NV it is not getting universal praise at all many reviews have docked it considerably for the bugs and the reused assets, but from what I have heard and read the content is so good and so plentiful that the game is still more than worth playing, it's not perfect but it's still a great game. If you don't agree with the reviewers opinion of the game then disregard it, it's not law or definitive by any means.
Now as for vanquish many reviews docked it for length but once again the game is still a blast to play, and for the kind of people the game is aimed at it will have tones of replayability with it's god hard mode, challenge mode and online leader boards, it's still a great game with a lot going for it. And as long as the review mentioned the length so people that find the ability to finish the campaign in 4~ hours by skipping all the cut-scenes and the fact the is a lot of cheesy dialogue so people who don't like that sort of thing can avoid the game, I don't see the problem if the reviewer thinks that the game is amazing and worth a 9/10.
Some people find game length to be incredibly important, some value the amount of fun they had while playing the game no matter the length, some people find glitches unbearable some people think the gameplay and content of the game can make up for technical short comings, and reviews are going to reflect that, reviews are the reviewers opinions of the game after all, you disagree with their opinion fine don't buy the game (or do) find reviewers that reflect your opinions and stick with theme if you wan't but just because you have a different opinion doesn't make their review wrong.
as for things falling out of the sky are you sure that's a bug, sounds like a feature to me...

This is the main reason,I'm going to buy this game later,to see if they patch some of this stuff. |
awww you didnt do any sidequests?
I'll prolly just wait till its all patched up before picking thsi up
Its good to know that it is at least enjoyable. I'm going to wait a while before getting it, though, cuz i'm still working on Fallout 3 and a couple other titles. More patches are imminent, so It should just become a better experience with time anyway.

Well I don't buy games when they're buggy from the beginning. I expect game to have very few bugs from the get go. I could careless about patching a game as I barely patched (or never patched) any of my games years ago. I expect games to be great from the beginning. Lazy damn devs...
Well, to throw in my little bit of anecdotal evidence... I'm about 15 hours into the 360 version of the game and haven't had any crashes or significant framerate drops; the game has actually been surprisingly stable based on all the negative press I was seeing about bugginess and frequent crashes. I played about eight hours or so off the disc and then installed the game and have been playing from the install since then. Anyway, I haven't seen any issues with flying cows, mysteriously appearing/disappearing enemies or bizarre NPC behaviour.

This is a hypothetical
Well say what happens if. The game is more fun with the inconvenience of bugs included. Than a game without bugs. Would you get the game without bugs based on principal? Especially if they patched the game so it was clearly better than other games you may have already boughten?
