If you're going to get IV, get the DS version.  It's considerably harder than the other versions, but not what I would consider 'too hard', it has some FMVs, but only for key parts of the story, unlike post VII FF games.  Fans argue whether the music surpasses the original, I would say they do, but they are fantastic none the less.  The voice acting (it's only in the FMVs though) is very good, which I wish I could say more often about JRPGs.

In the remake, one can also 'augment' their characters, meaning you can give characters the abilities of other characters when they are absent from your party for story reasons, plus loads of other new abilities.

The only downside of getting the DS version is that it is missing a couple of side quests the GBA version included.
