BS...

and on top of that some lies too...

with a hint of wishful thinking at the end....

The end of Sony and Microsoft are very close.

Earlier this year, a report came out that investors wanted Microsoft to get out of unprofitable secotrs (video games being one) and focus more on Windows. Now, Microsoft is investing 500 million dollars in advertising alone. Now, think to yourself: what will happen if Kinect fails? Well, those investors might get upset with Microsoft. They may just dump their stock. Microsoft did just lose a heck of a lot of money on a silly attachment to the 360. That is a huge amount of money. Do you think Microsoft will continue the videogame pursuit after that? Probablty not.

And look at Sony. They had 3 years of loses with the PS3. They are just now trying to recoupe the loses. But the sales are not strong enough to make back the money. And most of Sony's recent experiments have failed. The PSPGo failed. The Move is failing. Are they just going to keep throwing good money after bad? Esspecially after they just had a restructuring.

Here's the truth. How long are these companies going to keep investing in areas where they only lose? How long will investors put up with it. Remember, these comapnies are not game companies. Video games are not their primary source of income. But they have been the primary source for loses.

It is wishful thinking to beleive their is a future for the Playstation and XBox.

Look at the recent sales trend at NPD and Media create ohhh!!!

Yup! you are right they are indeed losing.

This is the response? Ugggg

Look at the actual numbers, NOT those in comparison to the Wii. Microsoft and Sony both are doing bad. And they have been doing bad for a couple years now. In fact, this is terrible for Sony as they need high hardware numbers to make back the money they lost.

The latter half of the year has been awful for hardware sales. So, no, just because they outsell Nintendo are they AOK.

Most likely Microsoft is holding back shipments to show how "well" Kinect is doing.

Kinect is a big gimmick. We know the product simply doesn't work and Microsoft is spending billions of dollars to make it look better than it is (rather than put that into the product itself).

I think that Kinect will end the Microsoft game division.

Yea because you own one right? I Think you are way off and have no clue whay your talking about. Good way to turn the dicussion into a doomed thread.

I think kinect is going light your arse on fire with the sales it's going to unleash.

Hey lets just go with the, "IT'S DOOMED"! LOL

Gut feeling for me is Microsoft are going to be fake shortages all xmas, to make it the 'must have gadget'. People always want what they can't get, Kinect is no different, pretty much trying to get it into mainstream culture as the 'must have electronic thing' like the Wii was a few years ago.

Good strategy tbh, provided people still care in January...

XBOX 360 HAS BEEN MAKING MONEY FOR SOME TIME. DOOM GUY. NOW ZUNE ON THE OTHER HAND.

PS3 AND XBOX 360 ARE NOT GOING ANYWHERE.  YEA INVESTORS CRY ABOUT EVERYTHING. CALM DOWN.

Oh lord, here we go again. Microsoft is apparently doing well, and numerous Sony fanboys try to attack them anyway they can.

Everyone needs to play Lost Odyssey! Any opposition to this and I will have to just say, "If it's a fight you want, you got it!"

It's worth remembering both Sony and Microsoft have other motives then just gaming though. The Ps3 was part of the HD initiative to sell Sony HD TV's, sell Sony Blu-Ray disks, Sony HD cameras blah blah - and now they're doing the same thing with 3D. There will always be Sony gaming devices when there is tons of other Sony products which can be sold with them.

I don't totally get Microsofts motives, but it's all about controlling the living room with their device before the PC gets replaced, or something. They had these losses lined up and accounted for long before they entered the gaming scene, so I'm sure they have a long-term strategy for this, and the 360 seems to have been too successful for them to quit now.

It's very odd for anyone to talk about either leaving now. I mean, the consoles are profitable now, game sales are at a peak and both Move and Kinect are seemingly set for big sales figures for what is cheap to produce (Compared to retail price) products.

Maybe you should actually do some research instead of sprouting the "I heard someone say"  Because what you heard I think we all would like a nice link.  It's already shone that Xbox Live brought in a billion in revenue for MS last report.  That sure sounds like MS is having problems with the xbox platform bringing in the money.

The problem with your post is that you do not know the source and you do not know the meaning.  It was an investor from Goldman Sachs that said that MS should concentrate on their core products instead of things outside of Windows.  In other words, they state that MS should be like Oracle instead of in so many different markets.  This was one investor and pretty much everyone in the industry thought he was on another planet.  MS stocks barely even blip and no one who understand MS even cared.

The key is that MS has built the xbox brand from an upstart to a viable and profitable platform that they can now leverage with their other properties giving them more value.  With Windows Phone 7 now having Xbox Live, this will increase the sales for that device as a gaming platform.  It will also give the next Zune a nice kick as well and each platform can feed off the other and thus making each better than their individual parts.

shows high demaned to me

this thread seems to be turnning into fan bait from both side and its sickening! so stop assuming Sony fans are in this thread to attack Kinect and if Sony fans are in here to do that then don't bother is not worth ur time.

So, before we all overreact to this 'news' (too late), who's to say this is even a reliable source of information?  Wasn't sourced all that convincingly so this could be just traffic fishing.

But look at things this way:  if Sony has shipped as many Move controllers as they announced in a non-holiday release, is it conceivable that MS would ship out a smaller number of Kinect devices for a holiday release?

And, as I've mentioned in another thread (that of course was ignored), preorders do not represent shipments.  Upon launch week, Halo Reach had just under 2 million preorders (allegedly), yet sold over 4 million during launch week.  Were their shortages?  No, which means they shipped even more.  So don't put too much into preorder numbers being indicative of first week shipments OR sales.

Can't wait for this to actually SHIP now, sick of these pre order threads and all the conspiracy theory's by a certain set of people!

Let's see them argue cold hard numbers.

Agreed . I want the November and December NPD numbers already , damn it !! I am really interested in seeing what kind of effect kinect will have on the market, both on the hardware and the software front.
