Forums - General Discussion - Scientists may of gotten Mayan calendar wrong...

1. the calendar only goes to a certain point, the mayans did not say this meant the world would end at this point.

2. when that day is, therefore, is irelevant to even conspiracy theorist morons.

This.  To expand on this, also:

The Mayan calendars were made starting with a short calendar and then combining that calendar with others to make longer time spans.  The Long calendar, even if it was accurately going to end in 2012, just meant that was their longest combination created.  This could be for a variety of reasons such as they saw no need to expand a calendar any further since it was going so far ahead of their current time frame anyways.

isn't it just about mayan cycles

2012 was just the end and beginning of one

the humans will just move to another solar system by the time our sun has had it,if humans even need a sun to live by that time i'd be surprised

                                                                                                                                        Above & Beyond

Anyway , remember all the stupid people saying a black hole would form when they launched the LHC ? The force needed to start a black hole big enough to swallow the earth has to be an exploding star way bigger than the Sun.

Well If the human race wants to keep in existence , than space exploration and colonization of other planets is very important. The chance that we will be able to see the sun exploding is very small if we keep sitting here on Earth. We could get hit by an astroid , a solar flare , a gamma ray , or a quasar.

And if non of that happens , we always could destroy  ourselves with a nuclear war.

This is a logically flawed argument but: What would they know about the end of the world?

Yeah, this is what I don't get; everyone is acting as if the Mayans predicted that the world would end when all they really did was make a calendar that stopped counting in 2012. Maybe if their culture had persisted, they would simply make a new one for a new era? Kind of like our BC and AD counting.

This feels kind of like the Y2K phenomenon all over again or all those religious nuts commiting mass suicide because the Lord was coming down to end the world.

maybe they just didnt know what number came after 2012? like, maybe they lost count or ran out of marbles or something.

Well danm, this just proves the Mayans were more advanced and intelligent than modern people.

I fucking hate how preachy that 2012 film was.

Anyway, they never EVER predicted the end of the world! gah this is so fabricated.
