That's really sad, this amount on advertisement is ridiculous. They could spend this amount of money on develloping better games

You are talking about a snapshot in time. Yes, in 2010 Microsoft is spending money on advertising a product. In 2012, they may be spending more money on making "better games".

Kinda like sony circa 2000 and PS2...

"Sure Dreamcast has many and better games than we do for a year, but we will advertise and hype this DVD player and CGI graphix. Kojima will release MGS2 sooner or later..."

500,000,000 $ with Kinect's price standing at 149,99$, if Kinect sells 3,333,556 copies, it'll be it, but all the money is not going to Microsoft, so the Xbox360 sold with Kinect will compensate that. But still.. 3,333,556... So yea this is not for profit, but for market shares.

seems like MS kinda going crazy

guess they just can't bear to lose more and more market they left now a days

but then never worry for them cause $$$ is what they have

well wish them good luck is what i can say

cause i'm one of gamers that is not gonna buy it

They are spending 1 billion dollars on Kinect and WP7 in the next 3 months alone. Sony was right, they can't compete with that.

This is actually a very interesting discussion:  Sony's advertising budget for 2008 was ~5 Billion.  About 4 times as large as Microsofts.

So it would appear that Sony COULD compete with that budget for the Playstation division, but they choose not to.

0_0 that's just crazy! HUGE risk, hope it pays off, it sure does have the potential to do but if it goes downhill this could be a big problem for the company

they'd probably only need to sell 2.5m plus an additional 1-2 million 360s to pay off the advertising..long term, to pay for R&D and costs, they probably would need to sell 5m of each or more.
