I love the competition that is currently present...But if I had to see a console maker stop making consoles, it would be Nintendo, because their games could be accomplished on pretty much any hardware, so there's no need for it, really.  As long as Mario was still found somewhere...it wouldn't make a lick of difference to me

Given Nintendo's design philosophy, that really isn't the case at all

Mario games, Metroid, and Zelda could be performed Nowhere else?

Just waiting for that PS Vita to come out so I can play some full featured games on the go with that beautiful screen and control scheme...

All companies who aim to dominate the console market by expelling the others in a war of financial attrition.

ie. Sony and MS

This.

Especially Sony for symbolic reasons (becasue I would love to see the Sony fans of today feel what it's like to be a Sega fan), and becasue they actually suceeded to drive out another games company using that strategy, which is not cool.

I LOVE ICELAND!

Wii sports, Zelda SS etc would not exist today if it weren't for nitnendo's hardware innovations.

As someone who prefers Japanese developers almost exclusively, you would think my answer would be MS. However, Sony's first party is carried so much by games from their western teams that, despite being a Japanese company, they very rarely satisfy my gaming needs.

I've always thought that Nintendo and MS could co-exist much more peacefully together. That being said, a return to the time when NEC, Sega and Nintendo were the big 3 would be the most ideal for me, personally.

And wouldn't that be just terrible...

its not about hardware limitations and tech its about game design, i don't think mario would be the same without Nintendo.

You can blame Sega for their idiotic strategy not Sony.

i am a long Sega fan myself, but the way they just screw everyone over with the saturn and then dropped out of Dreamcast early is just dumb and stupid.

as a fellow Sega fan i'll tell you get over it already

yes it would be.

Also, there would be no Super Mario 64, no Z targeting system in  games because OoT would not have the analog stick etc.

Your opinion is backwards. If Nintnedo stopped making hardware, it would have a HUGE impact on the innovations in both game software and hardware, but if Sony or MS who only relies on 3rd party games (or copying 3rd party game koncepts) anyways would have left, then there would be no impact what so ever, because the 3rd party games that they get would be just as great on any other consoles, and many of their 3rd and first party games would be even better on PC (Halo, Killzone, etc).

I'll say it again. Your opinion is backwards.

I'm not talking about just selling the IP...I'm talking about Nintendo making their games still, but not for a NINTENDO branded console.

The thing is, Sega would have survived their mistakes if it wasn't becasue of the fierce (and sometimes unfair) competition from Sony. They proved that they had learned from past mistakes with the Dreamcast.

Although I know they made some stupid decisions, they made things interresting and unpredictable. (and as I said, seing Sony fans be in the same position as Sega fans would be oh so enjoyable)

I'll never get over the loss of the greatest rival that Nintendo ever had :)
