Why do they always have more than one person playing Dance Central? isn't it single player?

I believe so.  I guess they want to make it look like a multiplayer game, so it looks more fun?  I know a lot of people were saying Dance Central is going to be the real game to hook people because of its unique tracking method, but there's a game coming out for the PS3 that does full body tracking, as well.  It's a fitness game called Get Fit With Mel B.  It made me wonder if Dance Central does go multi-plat, would Harmonix be able to pull off the exact same game just using the PS Eye.

If Harmonix had been able to do it with the PS Eye they would have already.  You think they WANT to keep it exclusive?  They've stated plenty of times in videos that they wanted to do a dance game for a while but the tech didn't exist yet to do what they wanted to do....and they had already made games for the Eye Toy so they know what they're talking about.  They have indicated they might do versions for the PS3 and Wii but it would only be tracking the hands.

The Mel B game doesn't do what you think it does.  EA Sports Active 2 has stuff that is exclusive to Kinect because the developers said it wasn't possible to track those exercises on the other systems, things like push ups.

Dance Central is 1 player at a time however you have a box on the right side that is showing the full depth map image so it can show 3 people dancing, the main player and 2 "backup" dancers, I've played it while my girlfriend was dancing and I could see what I was doing in the window as a backup dancer, only she was getting scored though.  They DO however have some PVP and co-op mulitplayer modes where the players switch out during the song.

The games shown in that video looked just terrible. No controller really limits what you can do.

Yeah they do. And yes it does.

But on the flip side of that, controller free tracking based control also provides both an alternate control scheme (that may or may not be better than a basic game pad) as well as in interesting and different set of design options when laying down the foundation for a game.

I think the best Kinect games will ultimately prove to be the ones that don't simply try to take traditional controller based games and replace that input with gestures. The only problem is, the vast majority of games currently being played simply work best with traditional controller based input. You have to completely start over during the controls design phase to make something really different with Kinect.

Can it be done? Of course. The question is who will do it and how successful will they be.

I thought Harmonix already said Dance Central could come to PS3?

Clearly Kinect seems better input, but they seem confident it could be done.  And looking at the videos so far I'd be surprised if it couldn't.

I'm pretty sure MS will agree at least a timed exclusive on it, as it's far and away the most intersting title for Kinect I've seen and seems to get the most positive response.  But I wouldn't be surprised if it didn't turn up on PS3 later in some form.

Try to be reasonable... its easier than you think...

In the article it says they are looking at using move to do it. Sounds like that would be quite diffrent from the kinect version which has no controller.
Why do you think the ps eye can do dance central? what videos are you looking at? Dance central is one of the games I have seen that seems to exclusivly use the infra red cam of which the ps eye does not have.

Looking at a car is not a game

I take it you are not a REAL car enthusiast. I can see the true car geeks will like that feature.

On the flip side, one could argue that playing as a petal floating in the wind is not a game but that was an awesome experience, this is catering to a specific group.

My only gripe with the Forza video is that they crapped on Polyphony for "stealing" their racing line idea but then openly admit to "looking at" other racers for ideas...double standards much?

Flower has goals and challenges. Looking at a car is a feature that I'm sure is in every racing game and I don't know why they keep showing that feature with Kinect like thats a good reason to justify buying the camera to me it looks very awkward.

I have a feeling that the lag may well be  a hardware problem not software. I cant say for sure but i think losing one of the chips from kinect and using the system to replace it may well be the problem. As with move i have yet seen anything that makes me want to sell my (very dusty) wii.

Ah, I think that's the thing with this feature though. I don't think that's the main draw of the game, if it was I would agree with you but this is an additional perk not the main draw of the game.

PS One/2/p/3slim/Vita owner. I survived the Apocalyps3/Collaps3 and all I got was this lousy signature.

With regards to the lag, I think it's maybe because this isn't the final version of Forza, I mean people have talked about Lag in The Fight but it seems closer to release, they've ironed it out now...

(p.s why am I defending Forza when I have Dan Greenwalt on my shit list for his E3 speech? ¬_¬)

Exactly, its a feature an additional perk but they keep showing it meanwhile I'm still wondering  if you can change gears and if it works while you are seated.

No, it's a combination of hardware, software and TV latency.  However the hardware lag is pretty small.  Kudo mentioned in an interview that they did tests where someone with a controller would press a button when they saw a light flash on screen and someone with Kinect would clap when they saw the same light.  The difference in response time from the clap and the button press was the same.  The difference is people need to get used to the lag of their own body, obviously it takes a lot less time to press a button than to clap your hands.

A better example is timing a jump in something like the hurdles.  Playing with a controller you're used to timing your jumps in games for when you need to press the button to BEGIN the jumping animation, whereas with Kinect you need to time your jump so you hit your peak when the character needs to, that is a very different feel.  You need to jump much earlier with Kinect than you might feel used to when coming from a controller.

Now I'm not saying there isn't lag, I found the table tennis to be pretty sluggish, however Eurogamer pegged the latency at about 200ms, which isn't far from the 133ms latency they calculated from Move.  However if you watch videos of the raw data coming from Kinect it's not very laggy at all.
