<p>I'm not saying any names, but there are a lot people who claim to have played First Person Shooters leaps and bounds ahead of the Halo series on the PC. They even go as far to call Bungie's series nothing but average. I, for one, think Halo is great and I consider myself a hardcore gamer. I really appreciate the universe Bungie created, consider Halo 3 a technical master piece, Halo 2's multiplayer to be a milestone for online gaming, Halo is single handily the reason for the Xbox's success and why FPS are successful on consoles. Halo never did anything revolutionary, however, but it refined the genre, especially on the consoles.

What is so average about the series? What makes other FPS games better than Halo?

I love my fair share of Half Life, but Halo is great.

Halo 1 and 2 were both fantastic and milestones in gaming. Halo 1 brought an interesting new shield mechanic, good console controls, and accessibility that had never been known on a console game.

Halo 2 took what Halo did well and improved on it and added the fantastic online multiplayer.

Halo 3 tried to appease the Halo 1 and 2 hardcore fans but really didn't do anything monumental (Forge is cool but not that cool).

That all said, Halo (and most other console FPS games) don't compare to the PC FPS games. I know you and ever other Halo nut will say you prefer the console controls but that's just because that's what you're use to. Mouse and keyboard are simple more accurate and allow for more customization for the majority of people. That's just how it is.

My advice to you would be to ignore the people that try to tell you not to like Halo and continue liking the games you like.

None of the Halo games really revolutionized FPS games as a whole. They just brought some of the awesomeness that existed in PC FPS to a console. I don't think that many people hate them, but the amount of undue praise they receive can get on people's nerves. Especially since it's been so successful at breaking through to the mainstream, attracting drunken fratboys and other delightful types of fans in the process.

Cheat1011 is agree with you halo is great and people who say its not are either sony fanboys and are jealous that they havnt got it or they have never played it

I know Im going to get shot for this but I dont think that any control method yet for FPS are that impressive. Certainly nothing to spoil that type of games, but I just dont think mouse and keyboard is all that. Yes on the whole its better than console controllers but its still far from perfect.

In fact Id say the nearest to perfect would have to be the wii setup for Metroid Prime 3. Again its not a perfect game and its not the best FPS (Half Life 2 takes that crown. For me anyway) for Id like this to be the PFS controlling method of the future. A few tweeks here and they there and bingo!

On topic. The Halo Trilogy is great. 9/10 on the whole :)

are all franchises/games that blow Halo out of the water in every direction. UT99 is a better game then Halo 1, 2, and 3 combined. Why? because it started the online FPS genre. Goldeneye destroys the entire halo franchise. Why? because its the first console FPS to successfully have multiplayer, great controls, style, and vehicles.

When it comes to halo. Halo is just average in the field of legends. 

 That is possibly the worst argument I have ever read.

Goldeneye is the reason why FPS are popular on consoles, even then its not the first (that being some crazy face shooting game on the SNES...) not Halo.  Halo is an extremely fun game (and indeed Halo is my favourite game in the series, I havent had extensive time with 3 however) and the series has done wonders for online console gaming but they aren't the milestone that some people make them out to be, some people view them as on the level of importance as the creation of Mario where I think they are more on the level of GoldenEye as far as importance to the industry goes.
