Forums - Sony Discussion - ps3 controller question?

This happened to me twice, once with my 3 year old controller then once again with an almost brand new controller of my nephew.

If you are brave you can open the controller and remove then reattach the battery after a while, somehow this worked for me on both occasions. Took a while for the controller to start charging but started fine after a while.

I usually thinker with my stuff and figured something happened to the controller because mine had fallen several times now and I'm 100% sure that my nephew's has hit the floor a LOT more than mine (he's 4 years old)

Works fine now, the cable was not the issue.

how complicated is the inside of the controller?

if I wanted to replace a finished battery, I'm assuming it's easy to open and then put back together right?

Around the Network

Pretty easy, but the old ones have more small parts especially in the Rs and Ls buttons that can be a pain to reassemble if you aren't careful when opening them up.

The newer ones are easier as less parts are involved.

To replace the battery is just a matter of remove 5 screws holding the back of the controller, the battery is easily accessible after that, just keep the controller facing down when removing the back (analog sticks pointing to floor) and be sure to remove the back of the controller like a clam shell (open from the handles trying to keep the L and R button side together) it's easier

THE usb cable is just a standard usb cable, nothing properitary

So I have to shell out the money for a whole new controller then?

Lol no just find a standard usb cable. For instance, I have a creative zen player (works as audio and video player) and its charged with a usb charger. This usb charger works o nthe PS3 too. Just find a damn standard usb cable for recharging purposes.

EDIT: If your controller itself is dead or not, I have no cluez.

Can you bye a standard usb cable. Don't have other than my one ps3 controller. lol

it isn't a standard usb cable, it is a mini to usb cable.  A standard usb cable would be what you plug into printers.
