Forums - Sales Discussion - Kinect sold out at Gamestop and Newegg

We have heard the UK-retailer Game talk about Kinect shortages and the need to preorder this device some time ago. A lot of people called BS on this one and it was just a marketing-coup by MS and Game.

Apparently, the situation might be more real than we thought. Gamestop just stopped taking preorders for Kinect. You can only preorder Kinect with a new console, but not the sensor-bar as a standalone.

The same happened to Newegg.com. The sensor is "sold out" already. Even the Kinect 4GB bundle and the Kinect 250GB bundle are out of stock.

So what do you guys think? Is this still a marketing move or is Kinect actually selling well. Stop taking preorders hurts the retailers business, so I have a hard time believing in a marketing move by them. Maybe MS undershipped the device, but that would be stupid, because they NEED the holiday season for Kinect.

UK is gonna be a problem, 360 is so big there that they need to get a huge supply. I cant see it happenin though, since production will be limited imo

Dunno still not sure how real this shortage is (for that matter most shortages) but it is more popular in the UK so if it was going to sell out it would be the UK. The problem with a shortage announcement is we do not know the volumes available for pre-order in the first place.

I have the 250G Kinect bundle on pre-order through Amazon which buy the way I have snagged for £279 as they dropped the price then put it back up again still available for pre-order last time I looked (So for me Kinect is £80). Two treats for me from Amazon in November the Pacific box set and my new 360 with Kinect.

Kinect as seen by PS3 owners ...if you can pick at it   ...post it ... Did I mention the 360 was black and Shinny? Keeping Sigs obscure since 2007, Passed by the Sig police 5July10.

I guess it's more a matter of the specific retailer and country. In the Amazon UK games bestseller charts for example it is only ranked 30, despite 7% price reduction and free shipping. And the 360 is of course extremely strong in the UK, in germany for example Kinect is only ranked 119 in the Amazon games bestseller charts.

And in general I don't think selling out necessarily means extremely high demand. Take a look at PS Move for example, it has been sold out on Amazon.de for almost a month. Even Sports Champions has been sold out on Amazon.de for weeks already even though it's just software and did not sell millions of copies.

Hmmm... the preorders for Kinect Adventures isn't that high. How can this be?!?!?!

But that was an Amazon.de problem. It wasn't sold out anywhere in Germany. Amazon.de must have made a mistake and underorder (Does this word exist?) PS Move.

But when 2 pretty big retailer are already sold out and 1 says he will be sold out soon, it must be due to demand or undershipping by MS.

Everything kinect-related is quickly rising on the amazon charts , the device, many games, the 250GB xbox360 bundle.....and we are still almost a month away from release with no real mainstream marketing from MS (TV spots) .  The kinect launch will be glorious AND I CAN'T WAIT FOR IT.

Kinect will most likely have a very strong launch. Im tempted to time my purchase of a new 360 for Kinect because a new Xbox 360 250GB is $489 NZD and a new Xbox 360 250GB with Kinect is $579 whereas Kinect on its own is $219 which is $130 more than the difference between the console without Kinect and Kinect standalone.

Oh yeah and we haven't got the 4 GB slim Xbox 360s yet! I think supply is tight / they are lazy. I really can't decide between those two. :-/

Tease.

Hmmmm(((( It's really bad for Micr.
