you sir, are an ignorant.A chunk of the handheld nintendo market, the largest part , is composed of previous nintendo owners.GB, GBC, and GBA, who then got DS and obviously look foward the 3ds.If you look at the sales of gb or gba you can tell the portion of market that moved is into the dozens of millions, with the ds adding a little extra casual padding.Kids that didnt play gba, and gb(under 15 crowd)  ARE NOT nintendos target, they are sonys hope, because they have no brand loyalty or tradition with nintendo.So dont label that huge chunk of grown up people as minority. 2ndly, for the moms and dads, well, they spend 300-because its the cool thing to own and peer pressure -on iphones for their kids, so that didnt stop them.Also, the similar pricing didnt stop parents from getting psps for their kids.Kids make their parents buy that stuff.Trust me, if a kid made a parent get them a psp for 250 5 years ago, 50 dollars arent gonna make a difference in 2011.

Simply, no. Given the hardware and the architecture being placed inside that handheld it's a reasonable price. Perhaps the technology, like the PS3, is just a bit ahead of the times which places it out of the hands of the middle class consumer market. This might be feasable at a reasonable price in two years time, but right now the market is simply not ready for the tech and the price tag is proof positive.

Nintendo copying Sony????

I've heard some absurd things in my time but this is ridiculous.

First the 3DS will not be 300 in the US. Anywhere from 225 to 249.95 for the console here. Next Japan is a handheld market so as long as you have the content. People will buy the hardware.

What I'm worried about the next console is that it might be trash talked and copied some years after, loosing part of its uniqueness because someone just doesn't know how to innovate from the start, as usual.

I hope Nintendo unveils the console like just 5 or 6 months before releasing.

So Nintendo is getting cocky for pricing a handheld that has better-than-Wii type visuals and 3D technology that is brand new and has never been released before? Gotcha. 

Eh, the price increase is more comparable to Wii than PS3 (and we all know how that went).  Especially when you consider the DSi XL as the last model to launch.

No way. Look at the price for 3D TV's, and then look at the 3DS.

Don't forget the power , the slider, the 3D camera and the great games. 

Plus we don't ACTUALLY have a price.

I think Nintendo is being honest, not arogant. Every company charges as much as they think the consumer will pay based on inputs the company receives. Let's look at some examples.

Arogance: 5m people will buy my $600 device without even having games for it

Honesty: we priced the system on a range of factors including customer interest (at E3 or not)
