Forums - Sony Discussion - Valkyria Chronicles 2: My Thoughts

Really, the simple thing to say would be that it's not as good as the first one in my book after putting countless hours into it.

Do people even use Techs? I never use Techs since they just screw up my turns while being useless about 98% of the time. I only use Scouts so I can make them Snipers since the Scout guns are nowhere as good or as useful. The song classes are a joke, the commands suck in general. The entire game you only use Lancers about 5% of the time and the rest is just Shocktrooper tree and Tank raping everything with 1 Engi. The first one gave you classes and advancements that made nothing useless, every class was useful in the original, was it even made by the same team?

The objects were not repeats of themselves every month (chapters in the first.) The grand story is much weaker, and though the multi map is a good idea, it's not as grand as most single maps in the original.

It's also not anywhere near as hard, I certainly don't dislike it, it's just not as good as the first one imo.

Also, what's up with only 1 tank? I had 2 to fuck around with in the original god damn it! 5 member limit in one area and 6 total? sigh... I want it to come back to PS3, or maybe 3DS =P.

I think almost the same thing. While I don't mind the the multi-maps, the character limit really irritates me. And as for the story, it's okay but I really don't like the archetype they gave Avan (dumb as rocks and powers through everything dude; I like to avoid those type of animes). Oh, and I don't like Zeri at all.

I've never used commands, not even in the first one, so that doesn't really affect my experience. :P

say what's?  commands are so useful >_>

I haven't played the second one though. I'm on the edge about getting this, because I don't have much time for games, and I still have to beat a lot of games. I didn't love the first one as much as people on this site do. But, I did enjoy quite a bit. Probably still one of my top 10 fav games this gen. It's dissapointing that there aren't improvements in the gameplay, atleast from what I'm hearing...

The graphics obviously not dissapointing because its psp, and I didn't think there would even be a sequal at all >_>... and the story, I didn't really like the story of the first one, though the characters were nice. So I don't figure the story in 2 would kill it for me.

But the gameplay :-/, was there anything that anyone in here would say is improved vs the original?

Well, I never had a chance to play VC1 on PS3 as I only own PSP, but from my perspective this game rocks! I wish I would have a chance to play the VC1 to get a contrast between these 2.

over 40 hours of gameplay and still enjoying it, now trying to get all the medals and all types to lvl 50 to unlock Welkin.

Area Recon FTW. Give it a try man.

Iv'e played about 20 hours so far. I found a use for most classes. The only class iv'e found useless so far is the gunner class. I might be using it wrong but hardly any of the bullets seem to hit the enemy. The story hasn't really hooked me in, but it pushes the game along ok.

You are right. I've upgraded Eric to gunner and that was NOT a good decision lol. Apparently gunners are only good when there are more than 2 or even 3 opponents in the line of fire, preferably scouts or shocktroopers, otherwise it's a very poor performing class...

You are so wrong gunners are awesome.

It's all about making hit angle as wide as possible which means you need to be very close (the bigger part of screen opponent fills the better).

But gunner at point blank range will kill most opponents hidden behing sandbags in single order while they stormtrooper can strugle against classes.

Just remember to not use standard gun but build special weapon for them - there's a variant which makes 60 shots instead of 50.

Also gunner has much much better interception fire against enemies and if you use him as support fire (shooting with other character while gunner is nearby) then all 60 shots will be directed against single target which makes the great against aces or fencers/maulers.

edit: also while techs are far from amazing upgrade fencer class is great for removing oponents in cover with single order without using grenades (as grenades can't kill harder classes you often need second order).

I finished the game in 65 hours and haven't even started the post-game content (there's alot of it!). Had to start KH: BBS asap. I agree the game just doesn't reach the epicness that the first game made, but it's understandable since this is a portable game. I also hated the credit system for being so random, it took me ages to grind certificates or diplomas for the characters I wanted.

Btw Fencers aren't that useless, they're really good at defending camps, since they have so big defense, so pretty much only lancers, tanks, mortarers or other techs dare to attack them. More reliable than gunners in many situations.

Second that, but the problem is that fencers to don't have that much AP in comparison with other classes, which makes them best suitable to guard bases, mostly. Otherwise, if lucky I'm always putting them to use when it comes to eliminating opponents in cover as you said.
