Greenberg calls PlayStation Move software line-up into question

Xbox man says games for Sony device are 'really controller-based games'

Microsoft product director Aaron Greenberg has questioned the launch software line-up for PlayStation Move - claiming that most games for the device are merely modified "controller-based" titles.

Speaking to GamesMaster's Rory Smith for CVG at Tokyo Games Show, Greenberg said that MS's launch software for Kinect was in stark contrast to Move's - as it had been built specifically for the device.

"I think that most of the experiences designed for Kinect were designed from the ground up," he said. "The difference is, it seems, a lot of the games made for Move are really controller-based games that [developers have] added the Move functionality to.

"Our approach has been different, because we feel that a controller is the best way to play games like Halo or Call of Duty. So we'd rather not have you have to choose between using a controller or motion controller; we'd rather design experiences that are uniquely made for Kinect.

"Now, there is the ability to have hybrid games that combine both - but we think those will be designed uniquely for that experience too."

PlayStation Move launched in the UK and US earlier this week - to a healthy critical reception. It will launch in Japan in November.

Its initial game line-up includes original titles such as Sony's Sports Champions and Start The Party. Meanwhile, a Move edition of existing PS3 title Heavy Rain is planned for an October release, whilst Capcom's Resident Evil 5 has received a software patch to work with the peripheral.

Greenberg's comments come after Microsoft unveiled a handful of 'traditional' games for Kinect at TGS - which some have speculated may tempt hardcore gamers to the device.

Kinect is set to launch on November 4 in the US and six days later in the UK. It will hit Australia on November 18.

Ask me about being an elitist jerk

Time for hype

While many Move or PS3 zealots may take offense to this, he's actually saying what many of you have stated as to why you prefer Move to Kinect.

Still, I imagine the votes of this poll will reflect a general dislike of Greenberg and what they'll likely view as a veiled attack . . .

PS Move vs. Kinect starts now!

well hes right. theyre 'motion' controller based.

I agree with what this guy says somewhat, but thats what motion games are supposed to be. Give us the games we have been playing but with motion fidelity, that way you dont alienate your core gamer fanbase

What's that supposed to mean? He just say that because he hadn't nothing else to talk about?

Above: still the best game of the year.

I thought heavy rain move edition comes out on SEP 22..
