Forums - Sales Discussion - Capcom numbers: Lowest since 2005

Well Capcom is happy with Resident 5, Monster Hunter Freedom and Tri, not happy with Darkside Chronicles, Super Street Fighter, Lost Planet 2, Bionic Commando and Dark Void

The total number of video games sold came to 12.5 million units, down from 17.3 million units last year. Most of the loss was due to the lack of any global marquee titles launched, like Resident Evil 5, Street Fighter IV, and Monster Hunter Freedom Unite in 2009. The highest selling title of the year was Monster Hunter Freedom Unite with 1.3 million units, followed by Monster Hunter Tri with 1.1 million units, and Resident Evil 5 with 950,000. The company notes that the delay of Super Street Fighter IV and Lost Planet 2 hurt fiscal year 2010’s bottom line. Resident Evil: The Darkside Chronicles, Dark Void, and Bionic Commando were all noted as failed releases

They deserve it I would say. Super Street Fighter was way to soon, lost planet felt like lesser version of the first one, even with all the different modes.

Bionic Commando and Dark Void do I even have to really explain.

Thank you wii owners for not buying darkside, I rather have them not try at all if they are just going to give spinoffs to wii.

Just a strategically weak year for them, despite the console Monster Hunter.

MHP3 should handily make up for it

Monster Hunter: pissing me off since 2010.

Bionic Commado deserved better sales. It's a fun game!

Actually the article doesn't say that Capcom isn't happy with the performance of Super Street Fighter IV and Lost Planet 2.

Only that these 2 titles hurt the outcome of the last fiscal year, because they were delayed into the next fiscal year.

Though I'm pretty sure they will label LP2 as a failure. SSFIV ? Hell no, it did extremely well.

Dunno why they aren't satisfied with Darkside Chronicles. Probably compared to Umbrella Chronicles, but over 600k for a Wii game isn't bad. Dark Void sold horrible and was just a bad game. Bionic Commando deserved more :(

Well, they were expecting 800k for DSC, so it's a disappointment even though it's not a bomb.

But I guess that was a lifetime prediction and not only for the first 5 months of sales, right ?

That's what I'm wondering right now, because I recall 800k being a lifetime figure. Capcom expected DSC only to do 80% as well as Umbrella Chronicles did LTD (what, 2 years?). VGChartz can always be off on numbers, but after 43 weeks this is what DSC has managed:

6,828  this week,  658,740 so far.

Why is Capcom worried? It is still expensive too. ($30 new)

EDIT: Now I see the problem. Umbrella Chronicles passed 800k after only 12.5 weeks, back by early 2008 when the liquor was flowing and Wii owners weren't too ostracized yet. Crazy what bad PR, no ads, and a lotta shovelware can do for a software mark-et.......

Leatherhat on July 6th, 2012 3pm. Vita sales:"3 mil for COD 2 mil for AC. Maybe more. "  thehusbo on July 6th, 2012 5pm. Vita sales:"5 mil for COD 2.2 mil for AC."

Everybody that was even talented at Capcom is now at Platinum Games or Grasshopper or other studios (except Keiji inafune). RE5 sucked, DMC4 sucked and SF4 was slight disappointment, they stepped it up with SSF4 though. The only things that is coming out of Capcoms doors thats even playable since RE4 is arcade games, fighting games and Dead Rising, all of which doesn't bring much cash as they don't sell to well.

Monster Hunter still rocks, so no, there's still talent at Capcom.  Ditto for Ghost Trick and Basara 3 evidently, and Okamiden looks great.  Just because their internal HD exclusive efforts have gone south doesn't mean the company has overall.

And SF4 was amazing, though it was also really developed at Dimps.
