Forums - Nintendo Discussion - NBA JAM - no online for wii version confirmed

A lot.  Check any of the NPD or other research firms reports and you'll note that it wasn't long ago the PS3 surpassed Wii in online usage.

People love to make generalizations against Wii while the majority of them are completely false.  The notion that few Wii owners even play online (such as your post is insinuating) has been refuted by data since it launched.

EDIT:
LOTN, that goes without saying for every game.  It's also been a major detriment to the sales for many Wii titles.  For example, THQ slammed Wii owners for the palty sales of Deadly Creatures yet admitted that they never ran a single TV ad for it.

And what are Wii owners playing online? Mario Kart? Smash Bros? MH3? We don't know if 3rd party games account for a significant amount of online activity or how much EA games were being played online.

Also, NPD is NA only right? Last I checked the Wii has a huge userbase lead over the PS3 in America. Perhaps online gaming on the Wii would still be ahead of the PS3 if Nintendo actually made people care about online gaming.

well what can you expect? Nintendo's online system is FAR behind.. I mean FAR behind..

I guess the develops aren't jumping on it as much as one would have hoped..

this may be a good thing though since nintendo may try to revamp the wii's online interface so that more devs add online to games..

mM

It seems as if the people at EA are dumbasses!!  Just a thought, but I could be wrong I suppose.

Yet Call of Duty 4 and Black Ops on Wii can have all the modes and features of the HD counterpart, Treyarch themselves said the only reason World at War lacked features was due to Activision not giving them the time, manpower, or funding... I just think whenever things like this come up it's just a publisher cutting costs by not giving the Wii team time, men, and money since that's the only logical reason to do this it has nothing to do with the system, if that was the case there would have been far fewer games supporting online last gen...

Do you even know what you're talking about?

Start slamming the online being "FAR behind" and then quickly turn around saying they need to revamp interface. Are you saying they only need to change the interface? As in, changing ABXY to BAYX? Now, how far behind is that?

The servers the Wii uses are the same as the PS3 and PS2 before it, gamespy, the only difference is a home menu that is constantly online to have a friends list, you have to build the online modes for PS3 just like you did for the PS2 and Wii, it's just developers not willing to go that extra mile.

For someone such as Leo-j who frequent here, he should have that knowledge but instead shamlessly jump in to bash the Wii and continue to spread false info.

As a matter of fact, Gamespy already stated that all tools available to PC games are also available to the Wii. As such, the absence or weakness of the online mode in some Wii games is a problem with the developers, not with the console or its servers.

By the way, I read that NPD report about the Wii being used more than the PS3 for online gaming... based on online survey responses from just over 20,000 members of NPD's online consumer panel ages 2 and older. That's what I call a little group of people, but yeah, there's still a growing tendency of the Wii's online usage so that's good news in my opinion. Though I'm sure most of the playtime is from Mario Kart Wii...!

After seeing the report I can agree that developers and publishers really ought to start taking the Wii more seriously as an online platform. This is just unfortunate for EA's NBA Jam I guess. But if you're a multi-console owner, I'm sure you'll definitely buy one of the HD versions for sure so it's not a loss for every consumer at least.

Why is Bionic Commando Rearmed 2 getting so much hate? We finally get a real game and they're not even satisfied... I'm starting to hate the gaming community so f****** much...
