Forums - Nintendo Discussion - NBA JAM - no online for wii version confirmed

So, NBA JAM will be the only Wii EA Sports game not to have online mode? This say a lot about how much EA Sports care for the game and raises my suspicious this will be a sloppy job.

My take is that online is easy to add to the HD consoles because of PSN and Live's structures. To add it in the Wii version, they would have to allocate some extra resources and EA Sports is not really trying their best to make this a good product.

Sweet.

Nice to know the HD version isn't affected

Why is this news "sweet."? O_o

That's too bad, but either way I'll get this some time or another. But the way they've been pushing this game, it's looking more and more like I'll be getting it later rather than sooner.

Ah well, my most wanted list is pretty jammed (ha.) for the holidays anyways.

Maybe not sweet for you, but it is for me... And anyone else who was considering getting it for PS3/360.

Just because the Wii version is gimped doesn't mean i have to be down in the dumps and hate on EA

I'm confused, what are you saying "sweet" to?, because it sounded like it's sweet that the Wii version is gimped (which is what this thread is about).

We already knew that the 360/PS3 version was going to have online features. The only thing we didn't know was if the Wii version would have these features as well. I just found it to be a very odd (and unnecessary) comment in the context of this thread.

slow clap is right

“When we make some new announcement and if there is no positive initial reaction from the market, I try to think of it as a good sign because that can be interpreted as people reacting to something groundbreaking. ...if the employees were always minding themselves to do whatever the market is requiring at any moment, and if they were always focusing on something we can sell right now for the short term, it would be very limiting. We are trying to think outside the box.” - Satoru Iwata - This is why corporate multinationals will never truly understand, or risk doing, what Nintendo does.

Perhaps if we actually knew how many people played Wii games online. This decision would make more sense.

Right... way to go, EA... You announce a game to get some of the old fans excited, charge more for the Wii version (retail versus PS3/360 download versions), and you have the nerve to gimp it?

And people wonder why I think that some companies are seriously trying to actually sabotage the Wii; this thread alone is showing the sales they're going to lose...

I still say no marketing will kill this game far more than online or not. Same as good marketing can sell it better than that.

A lot.  Check any of the NPD or other research firms reports and you'll note that it wasn't long ago the PS3 surpassed Wii in online usage.

People love to make generalizations against Wii while the majority of them are completely false.  The notion that few Wii owners even play online (such as your post is insinuating) has been refuted by data since it launched.

EDIT:
LOTN, that goes without saying for every game.  It's also been a major detriment to the sales for many Wii titles.  For example, THQ slammed Wii owners for the palty sales of Deadly Creatures yet admitted that they never ran a single TV ad for it.

Well I felt it needed to be stated, since a lot of blame on both sides is given, but marketing is almost never brought up, and I see that really is a common factor. Even the games that open poorly seem to have some legs, so marketing is a major reason these games don't sell, regardless of what is and isn't in them.
