Forums - Sales Discussion - 20 Best Selling New IPs of 2010

Er, Dance on Broadway isn't a new IP really... it's part of Ubi's Dance series.  I'd actually say that's similar to the Wii Party dust up earlier in the thread, if DoB counts, Wii Party probably should too then. :/

I'd also be wary of including IPs based on establsihed properties, like Dante's Inferno, ZhuZhu Pets or that Disney Dragon thing.  Not exactly "New IP" there at all...

Yeah I can really see what you're seeing, it's just heard to define what new IP is exactly

Would you (and everyone else in this thread) agree that the Wii, Lego, Sid Meier, Tom Clancy, Dance and maybe Imagine series should all have their new releases that aren't sequels (Wii Sports Resort, Civ 5 etc) or based on franchises that already exist in gaming (Lego Harry Potter, Lego Rock Band) should all be classed as IPs? Of course the Lego series will probably never have that but just an example

And also I'm gonna class new IPs as, new IPs in gaming, it's not perfect or 100% right but I think it's a fair way to define it for the purpose of this thread and I just want to be consistent.

So yeah basically unless a fair few people disagree I'm thinking of adding Wii Party to the list and going those "rules/definitions" for the rest of the thread

I'd vote leaving Wii Party out of it, the game is definitely part of the Wii Series (which, c'mon people, do have a ton more in common with each other than just the name).

Not sure about Ubi's Dance, but games with creators' names on them aren't necessarily all the same IP. For example, under Tom Clancy, Rainbow Six and Splinter Cell are two seperate IP's. Sid Meier's Alpha Centauri, Civilization, or Pirates should be all seperate - wouldn't be fair to lump them in as the same, just because his name is on it.

Though now that I think about it, it is hard to sort them out for sure...

I do agree with the Tom Clancy and Sid Meier games are all different IPs but when I thought of that I realised the same thing could be said for all the Wii games. Plus Nintendo have a history of naming games after their consoles as someone pointed out so yeah it's kind of a confusing line at times

Anyways people saying Red Dead Redemption isn't a new ip look up on what a spiritual successor is.Games like bioshock and demon's souls are spiritual successors.

Then we could say Final Fantasy and any GTA in a new city are all spiritual succesors to the last and therefore they are all new IPs

I'm starting to feel like the majority of this thread will be just arguing back and forth about whether or not something is a new IP or not

Update done, Modnation finally moving up on the list, not bad for a game that many wrote off at launch. Art Academy finally breaks into the top 20 and White Knight Chronicles says goodbye to the list

Wii Party is still not included if more people would give their opinion on that I'll keep considering it

Changes

Modnation up one to 7th
God Eater down one to 8th
Art Academy enters at 19th
How to Train Your Dragon drops to 20th

and White Knight Chronicles is out

Yeah Wii party aint a new IP its "Wii brand"

Sports Champions will join soon!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

All hail the KING, Andrespetmonkey

Wii Party is still a Wii title. That's how I view it at least.

Next week it appears that Sports Champions or Wii Party (depending on your decision) will knock How To Train Your Dragon off.

Yeah Sports Champions should make it next week, I didn't bother updating this week due to lack of movement but Sports Champions should make it

The Wii Party decision also kind of affects kinect too seeing as Kinect Sports, Adventures and Kinectimals all launch on the same day so do they all get included since they're technically all new Ips on launch day and any other Kinect game thereafter disallowed or do we allow all Wii and Kinect series games in the future in; at least Sony hasn't done the same with move!

Everyone needs to go out and buy Darksiders so that I can snicker at CGI. :P

Oh... don't forget to play the game as well...
