Forums - Sony Discussion - Hmmm... PS2 support on PS3 via Jailbreak?

The days go by, but not alike regarding the PS3 hack, closing the day full of new (PSgroove, PS3Wiki) are taught through an authorized dealer of PSjailbreak (discoazur) that the creators of the hack already working on PS3 new features for their product. These innovations are not the least:

- Support for all firmware.

- Support for NTFS.

- Supports Blu-ray and MKV.

- Support for PSX and PS2 games.

There's no denying the members of Team PSjailbreak are really pros communication, date hack open source PSJailbreak able to talk to him and confirms his status as a pioneer hack PS3. The source did not specify, however, whether these implementations will be integrated to the output of the first dongles or become part of the last days of the product.

I am guessing this means SONY can add PS2 emulation whenever they choose to do so?  If so I think SONY should go ahead and finally give it to everyone. It would allow me to pick up a Slim to replace my 60GB model.

As it states, with Jailbreak all PS3s will go from non-PS2 backwards compatibility to full PS2 compatibility.

I would be surprised if anyone actually thought otherwise.

They probably dropped it not only to cut costs, but to also keep the profitable PS2 selling. Now with PS3 making profit it makes sense for SONY to just give it to everyone, especially now if the Jailbreak team is telling the truth.

By the way, the Jailbreak thing went entirely open source. It is possible for anyone to make their own in ~1 minute.

Won't tell you how though since I don't know if things like that are OK on these forums.

Backward compatibility was one of the most important feature for me. That feature alone made me buy a PS3 actually. I bought the MGS4 bundle, because I was also very excited for MGS4. I have yet to play it though.

What I read from Gaf there is software based PS2 emulator in PS3 fimware but it's pretty slow and crappy.

If anyone plans to try and make their own just know that all distributors for the USB board required are all sold out.

Not even sure if I can let you know the required USB board...
