Virtual console game prices need to be halved!

I think the current price is fine 26 32.50%

They should be half of what they are now 36 45.00%

they should be less than half 18 22.50%

Yes the Virtual Console is a complete rip-off.

Compare to XBLA and PSN pricing.  Comparing to actual physical copies is a broken comparison.

PS1 classics on PSN are on average £4, some really big name games are £8, some others are as low as £3.  A lot of old games given a HD makeover/remake with extra features are priced £5-8.

XBLA has many games from older systems, they often get new features added, visual tweaks, achievements and are priced similar to PS1 classics or HD remakes.

Then you have the virtual console which is nothing but a rom dump in 99% of cases and NES games are £5 (some are more), SNES games are £8, N64 (same era as PS1) are all £10 minimum with a few costing even more than that.

If the PSN and XBLA can offer straight up rom dumps and even improved versions for those prices then the virtual console that does nothing but rom dumps is clearly overpriced.

You've got your figures wrong there. It's £7 for 1,000 points. N64 games are mostly 1,000 points, so... yeah. That makes NES games (500 points) £3.50 and SNES games (800 points) around £5.60.

The problem with Virtual Console isn't about prices, but about options. With almost null new games each week, players are not encouraged to buy them.

Nintendo raised the price of Wii points cards a while ago (which I found a joke).  Used to be £15 = 2000 points, now £20 = 2000.

example: http://www.game.co.uk/Accessories/DSi-and-DS-Lite-Wii/Points-Cards/Nintendo-Points-Card-for-Wii-and-DSi-2000-Points/~r341297/?s=wii points card

If you shop about then technically yes you can find 2000 points for cheaper, but then the same applies to PSN/XBLA cards so Nintendo is still costing more than those.

edit: the lack of a plus symbol on forums broke the link, add a plus symbol between each of the last 3 words to fix it.

I'm almost certain if you buy Wii points from the Wii shop channel itself it is £7 for 1000

First we have to get Nintendo to start releasing games for the Virtual Console again, then we can talk about dropping the price.

Damn right. Where are the Rare games?

They can't release some of the games made by Rare (Conker's Bad Fur Day, Jet Force Gemini, etc.) because those properties are owned by Microsoft now. They can't even make Diddy Kong Racing now becase Banjo and Conker are Microsoft characters.

The games that use Nintendo-owned characters can be greenlit, but that just leaves the Donkey Kong games, sadly.

Thanks for clearing that up.

Still, it would be nice to see Donkey Kong 64 on the VC.

Something else likely holding back DK64 specifically is that the game used the RSP 'microcode', meaning it used custom 'to the metal' programming outside the Nintendo/SGI standardized development environment.  This was something only a few devs did on N64 (only Rare, Factor 5, Boss Games Studio and Angel Studios iirc) but it allowed to get much more impressive results out of the hardware.  Other games this would be an issue for include Resident Evil 2, Rogue Squadron, Battle for Naboo, World Driver Championship, Indian Jones and the Infernal Machine and Stunt Racer 64.

So that's how they got high fidelity material crammed into those games like 640x480 res, CG cutscenes, and sky high polygon counts.
