Forums - Nintendo Discussion - The 3DS, release dates and Nintendo shares!!

So im going to buy NTDOY shares within the next few weeks, and given the news that theres an official price cut on the DSi on Sep. 12th in the US, im going to hesitate to guess its coming SOONER rather than later.

So this thread is about 2 things really. When will the 3DS release, and is this recent price cut announcement indicative of an actual new console release?

What about buying NTDOY? I want to know whether waiting to buy the stock is a good idea, and whether the next quarterly result will affect the stock significantly?

(i am aware that this thread is probably better suited in the Sales section but meh)

“When we make some new announcement and if there is no positive initial reaction from the market, I try to think of it as a good sign because that can be interpreted as people reacting to something groundbreaking. ...if the employees were always minding themselves to do whatever the market is requiring at any moment, and if they were always focusing on something we can sell right now for the short term, it would be very limiting. We are trying to think outside the box.” - Satoru Iwata - This is why corporate multinationals will never truly understand, or risk doing, what Nintendo does.

Based on the pricecut I bet Nintendo is releasing on the same schedule we all rumored since E3. Before xmas in Japan and before March in NA and maybe Europe by then.

Had the DSLite been discounted to $99 then you'd be right about an impending NA launch, but really they are just bringing the other items into a more reasonable price along with what happened in Japan months ago.

If you're planning on buying stock, wait a day or so to see what happens with the price announcement, then buy and just keep until after the very successful launch of the 3DS and their stock skyrockets sometime late next year when 2011 holidays hit and they break sales records again.

I'd buy stock now that Wii sales are slow, and the 3DS isn't out yet.

This holiday season Wii will skyrocket as usual and 3DS will launch at least in Japan. Stock will only get higher from now on, I'd assume. I don't know if Japanese market affects stock worldwide though. I don't understand shit about it anyway.

my guess is a JPN 3DS launch this year, and March for NA

After that bad last quarterly report (which we know was an issue of 3DS costs, given that their model is built to be profitable regardless of sales levels), i would guess that their stock price is more depressed now than it will be, so now would be the time to buy for the foreseeable future.

Monster Hunter: pissing me off since 2010.

I just wanted to clarify one thing.

If people tend to buy stock when its cheap and sell it when it is high to make a profit, who's buying stock when it is expensive then?

I don't get that.

Also, I see many people literally collecting stock. They just buy it and that's it. I don't get it. The fact someone is a stock holder, makes that person earn money on a long term basis? If yes, how?

Dividends are payments made by a corporation to its shareholder members. It is the portion of corporate profits paid out to stockholders.[1] When a corporation earns a profit or surplus, that money can be put to two uses: it can either be re-invested in the business (called retained earnings), or it can be paid to the shareholders as a dividend. Many corporations retain a portion of their earnings and pay the remainder as a dividend.

@ Kilik (That's my fav Soul Calibur character btw)

And the shareholders may decide whether or not they want to receive the dividends or to put it on the companies hands and get the dividends later?

I'm no expert but I can tell you most people buy rising stock, assuming it'll continue to rise.   Many wait until it's the 'hot' thing and that's foolish, because by then the stock is probably overvalued, but people like to follow the crowd rather than think for themselves.

As for buying and holding, nothing wrong with that as long as they pay good dividends and there's a lot of stocks that maintain a steady value and steady pay-outs.

If I had the funds free I'd buy Nintendo stock right now.   It's undervalued due to the last report and when the 3DS launches and becomes the next big thing, (moreso in the west than Japan where 3D screens are already commonplace on cellphones) it's stock will soar and then you can sell.

buy stocks now , and sell it somewhere between june next year or hold it for couple more years.
